No Christmas Goose
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:34:15 AM »
Every year I go 1-2 days before Christmas, goose hunting. Sometimes I get a couple geese, sometimes a few ducks. Sometimes its nice enough to flyfish the tailwaters of the Green, and get a nice brown or rainbow to bake. Its great to have goose or duck for Christmas dinner. The big storm came in today, so not likely much action tomarrow. Plus, the mountain pass will probably be closed to going over the Divide.
OK then, Swedish meatballs it is... anyone else waterfowling for Christmas?

I was going to go out this morning but the blizzard came through Oklahoma and kept me home.  Can't go tomorrow unless I want to get divorced.   ;D

I do have some duck in the frig from yesterday.

 >:(Haven't been waterfowling since Nov...Most of the country around here is frozen up, so they have moved to a few spring creeks, and in TOWN..We have a natural hot spring up stream from town and the water in town is warmer than the rest of the river....So ducks loaf here all winter now..Folks feed em, so they don't have to leave the area...This morning on my walk I went along the river just below the hot pool and there sat 5 large Canada's...They made no move to get any distance when I walked within 30 yards....    >:( >:( >:( ;D Only bagged one goose this fall with the BPS 10......

I live in Riverton. Did ALOT of flyfishing outside of Saratoga. Truly loved it. For awhile, had dreams of moving to Saratoga. There was a rib joint that was pretty good place to eat. I also loved hanging out by Encampment. Used to be an auction barn there years ago. Kinda cool to go to that stuff.

;) bear, the rib joint is gone, I don't know about the auciton barn in Encampment, although I spend a lot of time there...My girl friend and I have been looking at northern Wy. Thermop., Powell, and Lovell.. She likes that area and I do also...But I have been here about 40 years, so leaving would be difficult for me...But it isn't all that far from the northern country....How do you like Riverton...I liked the lower elevation and more bird hunting....

Riverton is fine. Still has that small town feel to it, which I like. Good fishing on Boysen and good waterfowling before freeze over. But I like to hunt late season. I think they taste better hunted late season.
