Warne maxima one piece steel base for Marlin 1894
« on: February 19, 2010, 12:34:24 PM »
Don't think there is a one piece steel base available for the 1894. :(I am thinking about buying one made for an encore and modifying it to fit.I have a TC encore muzzleloader with the maxima steel base and I want to be able to switch one scope back and forth via quick release rings between the two.My thinking is if I have the same type base the spacing of the slots will be the same and it would be simple to move from one rifle to the other and re-zero.I have some machining experience and a bridgeport mill at my job so it should not be too much problem. The encore base goes on the round barrel and the marlin is flat top so I'm thinking I could mill an encore base flat and drill new holes for the screws.

Has anyone tried something like this?Any other ideas I'm missing.I think that warne has a two piece base for the 1894 but then the slot spacing probably wouldn't match up.I know some will say just buy two scopes but I will only use a minimum of the Leupold Vari-x II and since I only use the TC two weeks a year this would save me about $300.00.

Sounds fine to me.
The older I get...The better I was.
