Scotland Yard Warns London of Possible Mumbai-Style Attack
Saturday, December 19, 2009

Print ShareThisScotland Yard has warned businesses in London to expect a Mumbai-style attack on the capital.

In a briefing in London 12 days ago, a senior detective from SO15, the Metropolitan police counter-terrorism command, said: “Mumbai is coming to London.”

The detective said companies should anticipate a shooting and hostage-taking raid “involving a small number of gunmen with handguns and improvised explosive devices”.

The warning — the bluntest issued by police — has underlined an assessment that a terrorist cell may be preparing an attack on London early next year.

During a “commando-style” raid by 10 gunmen on hotels and cafes in Mumbai in Nov. 2008, 174 people were killed and more than 300 injured over three days.

Officials now report an increase in “intelligence chatter” — communications captured by electronic eavesdropping agencies. One senior security adviser said the police warnings had intensified and become much more specific over the past two weeks.

Iffen errybody on the street was potentially carrying a concealed weapon I'm betting them terrorists would find somewhere else softer to hit. They know in England NOBODY is armed, hell they can't even carry a pocket pen knife.

it's not an issue of mortality, but victimization.  I know guns don't make me less likely to get shot, especially pulling one on a gunman.  I also know that I'll be shot at worst instead of pushed around and shamed.  I can think of much worse ways to die than being shot.  people in england get beat to death with pipes and bricks by gangs... sounds painful.  so is torture, mutilation and rape... not so easy to do to someone shooting though.  strangely the ideas that carried over to colonial america about a man's castle and militia came from england... seems they forgot all about it though.

now they're gonna see why little brother had to be suicide bombed with planes- because little bro can fight back.

muslim extremists can't just savage people over here and get away with it, because they'll get shot.  it CAN happen over in england because they can't be armed at all unless "connected".  gangs go around beating people with ballbats and other "improvised" weapons all the time.  because of that it won't take a semi-sophisticated attack over there.  they can just use thug-like tactics.  sorry for the rant earlier, sometimes i make a point and sometimes I get worked up.  I think I made a point this time, hope that got it taken care of.

what's YOUR opinion p.a.?

I think that in the time when people went about openly armed, people tended to be civil and law abiding. Outlaws were romanticized in part because their behavior was unusual. Firearms founded our freedom, firearms will keep it.

Islamic ji'hadist are particularly dangerous because their deaths resisting infidels is the only way a moslem can escape the judgement and condemnation of allah. The 72 virgins are a bonus.

Personal security agents tell us that assassins that have no concern for their own safety are extremely dangerous.

never forget when i went to vist my oldest brother in oregon in early 60's. i was from texas where guns are a part of life. yet i was surprized when we went to the local bar and my brother had a brand new super blackhowk strapped on. i said don;t to forget to take it off and he said here we can go into bars with guns. i was very surprised to which he said it keeps down a lot of the BS because the bully is afraid to sucker punch a man with a gun.

we stayed till closoing time and i did not see even a loud argument start. had we been in texas the fights start about 10:30Pm lasting till the the doors close.

there is a very good point in that .

With the health care bill behind the congressional whores they will now set their sights on you not having a gun either. They have a few things to get out of the way first. Then guns are on the list.

according to gun owners of america the health bill will attempt back-door registration of guns (or at least the ownership thereof) via health inspections and questionaires.  also mental fitness go/no go for owning/bearing arms.  I doubt it would ever happen but that doesn't mean it can't be attempted (most liberal ideas seem far-fetched but they seem to catch on after awhile).

A few weeks ago during open enrollment for our health care options at my company, we were offered a $200 credit if we participated in an online survey about our "health & lifestyle choices." I took the survey, and received an email detailing where my health was at risk and how I could improve my particular situation (lose 10#, eat your veggies, blah, blah).

There weren't any questions concerning guns in the survey, but there was a pie chart showing common causes of death in the US. One small sliver (I think it was 4%) indicated deaths via FIREARMS (no indication if that included military/police or criminal street gang members of course)

I had to laugh. What? No category for medical malpractice deaths here?

I'm wondering if next year the survey will be mandatory, with no credit, and will have questions about if I've seen a gun or bullet lately.

If I remember correctly (someone else feel free to post up the study if you can find it)

30,000 plus (under 31,000) gun deaths per year in the us (we've got over 300million now I think)
16-17,000 are suicides- the rest are a combination of self-defense, police shootings, accidents/negligent discharges, AND homicide/criminal action.  cops and military and self-defense get lumped into that 13-14,000 or so along with legitimate gun deaths.

even the total is minimal considering how huge america's population is

even better, a kid a day dies to a gun.  kids are defined by some young age and it was actually 321ish (16 and under maybe)
I read it in an NRA magazine and don't want to dig it out to find it... anyone remember where this came from?  It should be an 09

I wasn't taking it too seriously that the antis would use health care to get at guns but I just became alarmed. Our Senator Murkowski was just quoted today that apparently the proposed health care bill will be taxing tanning booth operators since use of them may result in skin cancer!

"Tan tax" under fire by Murkowski Posted by Alaska_Politics  Posted: December 22, 2009
http://community.adn.com/adn/node/146231?pageNum=2&mi_pluck_action=page_nav#Comments_Container

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, took to the floor of the Senate Tuesday to read a number of letters and e-mails from constituents with concerns about the health care overhaul bill. They included the owner of four indoor tanning businesses in Alaska, who said the proposed tax had the potential to bankrupt his family.

"When did this go from a 5 percent tax increase for cosmetic surgery to 10 percent for indoor tanning, anyway?"

I'm convinced now that this health care bill may dig down to the tiniest details of how we live our lives. Then no doubt guns and shooting will be on the list somewhere. SHEESH! Will they tax bicycles? Crossing the street? This gets me back to wishing the US was willing to let folks take responsibility for their own choices.

i bet when it all comes to light we are going to be very surprized just how deep into our lives they intrude. they have wanted this for years and from my view i believe they have pulled out all the stops.

they will regulate all they can you can bet on it.

"a kid a day dies to a gun.  kids are defined by some young age..."

A few years back, I remember that one of the large anti-gun orgs classified anyone under 25 as a "child" to bump up their death stats. That would of course include a high percentage of young street gang members, as the older ones are smart enough to demand that new recruits perform a majority of the hazardous duty.

that's my point, the "kids" aren't THAT young- old enough to get the hoodlums included anyways.  and it's still not one per day in a nation of over 300million.
