A great loss for me today.
« on: February 05, 2010, 02:35:10 PM »
I had had to say goodbye today to my dog. I just wish I could have been there. Its hard being away from home and not being there to help my wife. She came home from work today and our dog was imobile. She has been having seziures for a while. The vet has been helpfull through out the last month today once they got to the clinic the found liver cancer/tumor that was not previously seen. I was just really wishing  she could have toughed it out for another month and a half untill I got back to the states. She was almost gone by the time I was talking with my wife.
What did you do today...for Freedom?
Today, at the front, he died...Today, what did you do? Next time you see a list of dead and wounded, ask yourself: "What have I done for freedom? What can I do tomorrow that will save the lives of men like this and help them win the war?"

Ultra25-06, here a few month ago my wife's little poodle got down at the age of 13. He first lost his hearing in just one day, and still continued to play like he always had. Then one day he got down and stayed down. We took him to the vet and he said he had a bad liver infection. After two days at the clinic and no positive response, we had him put down. He lays in our back yard by a Jack Russell we lost a couple of years ago.
After several month of my wife crying every day, I brought home a Rat Terrier pup (8wks), and he fit in from the first day. My wife now says that he is smarter than ole Butch was. Ya just cowboy up and go on down the road of life.
Sorry for your loss. Now, go get another good dog. He's out there waiting on ya to come pick him up.

There is a yellow lab in my heart also so I know your pain. I lost her this past summer. I cried for three days. And everyone knows Marines don't cry.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of your dog...People who do not love dogs do not fathom the love and the pain the lost of the "little people" cause us when they pass. As my friend told me, our pet live with us forever,,, May that be true for you.... :'( :-\

Sorry to hear about your loss. Dogs really are unique animals. We have always had one in the house since I was a little kid. The one we have now is the best dog I've ever had and my wife and son love her like a daughter/sister. She is good in the field and great in the house. There's more personality in that 8 year old Beagle than any dog I have ever come across in my life. Hard to beleive some of the things she will do...A dogs love of its master(s) really is unconditional. How can you beat that....

I'm sorry to hear that, it's always tough losing a close friend.  It's amazing how close we become to our animals.

I can feel your pain. After a while you build a bond that is almost as strong as the bond with other family members.  I lost my old German Shepard a short while back; he had been a family member for fourteen years. I acquired a replacement pup and lost it after two weeks; it had parvo and could not be saved.  Two weeks ago I bought a five month old German Shepard female, I think she is going to be a great dog, big and smart she hit the scales at 56 pounds when I picked her up. I had a plan for her training but had to put it on the back burner due to my health problems, but hopefully I can get back on schedule next week

A friend sent me this after I lost my old Shepard Sam.  I hope you can find some comfort in the thought.

The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and earth. It is called
the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this
side of the Rainbow Bridge is a land of many meadows,
hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. The old frail
animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made
whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special
person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and
play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and
looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring.
And this one runs from the group.
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet
you take him or her in your arms and embrace.  Your face is kissed
again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes
of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never to be
separated.

I lost my black lab 5 months ago,he is in my picture and still in my heart. Only had him for 10 years 3 months, which seems much too short, but I'm thankful for every day we had!
