Any opinions from owners of the new 4x4. I'm interested in one in 25-06 or 338 win mag.
Thx

I can get the 4x4 for about 150 bucks less then a Ruger and I would bet the 4x4 would out shoot the Ruger 77 out of the box almost every time. I am not bashing ruger I really like them but I have 4 and all of them needed work to shoot good.

I doubt that. I have 3 Ruger M77 All weather rifles and they all shot great out of the box.

Well, the Mossbergs have a reputation from the git go to shoot very well with no tweaking.  Ruger's are nice solid rifles, but I've never heard of them shooting like the Mossbergs without a trigger job (which helps the shooter, not the rifle) and some barrel bedding work, whether it was free floating the barrel on one gun or putting a little tip pressure on the barrel of another.

One of the editors of Shooting Times and Petersons Hunting, Greg Rodriguez, took a synthetic 4x4 in .338 on a brown bear hunt.  He's an outfitter, writer, trainer, and while maybe not rich, he's comfortable in life, if you know what I mean.  He's got several rifles that cost thousands of dollars each that he could have taken, besides the fact that as a writer, he could have gotten a loaner from just about any company for the free publicity.  I find the fact that he took a plain jane rifle that any of us could afford on a multi-thousand $$ hunt of a lifetime, and felt fine using it on dangerous game pretty impressive.

Ruger rifle accuracy improved a hundred fold when they started making their own barrels.  When the barrels were outsourced, one would be great, the next would suck big time.  The Mossbergs are barreled by ER Shaw, so you know they are pretty good.

But I digress.....to each their own.

Its a good gun. I have yet to see one. Ruger has improved the trigger and I guess I was lucky when The only thing I had to do was lessen the trigger weight.

30-06 man I am a big fan of Rugers and really like them I haven't got any in a synthetic stock because I prefer wood but I don't mind working on them to get a good shooter. I like the feel and balance of the ruger but I haven't ever got one out of the box that was just right usually I free float the barrel and do a trigger job and then they are ready to go. My 300 win mag would only shoot about a 4" group out of the box with factory ammo after the free float and trigger job I got 1 1/4" at 100 yards and I was very happy :o I am only saying and don't mean you but a lot of people think you have to spend a ton of money to get a gun that shoots really good and in most cases the middle of the road guns are not as good as the lower or really high priced guns out there. Look at the Savage for the money I would take them any day over a lot of other manufactures out there thay are great shooters. Sorry if I started anything I am just stating what I have found with guns I have bought and I have tried a lot of them and most need something done to them.

Nah you haven't. I do my own trigger jobs if they need it. I normally find a good factory load and it works out well. My .308 shot out of a box 1in at 100 but then I had to do a trigger job because of the 5lb trigger. Then groups went down to 3/4 of a inch. That is with Remington Premier Corelokts(not the cheap ones).

I think i'll hug my M77s . I have three and they all were shooters out of the box. My local gun dealer refuses to sell anymore 4X4s or ATRs. He said the last three he has sold all had to go back to Mossberg in less than a month after the sale. Two went back twice and are still having feed problems. He has been in the same location for 20yrs and has an excellent reputation for being honest and straitforward. I've heard the line about Rugers not being shooters out of the box and I have not seen it nor have any of my friends M77s.

I'd have to say that every Ruger I've owned shot well out of the box.  M77MKII in 7mm Rem. Mag, one in 30-06, and a Ruger #1A in 7x57.  All of them shot under an inch at 100yds with factory ammo.  Triggers were heavy, but not really any worse than some other factory triggers.

I am planning on getting a new bolt action rifle, single shot rifle(s), O&U, and if I get my shoulder worked on a Matthews bow. I am considering the Ruger, Rem 700 VTR and the Mossburg. If I get the Mossburg I will reply with a range result.

Nope. Haven't seen a 4x4 other than the pictures online. Looks sweet although I am not sure why Ducks Unlimited would have their names on a rifle.

Not sure bout the DU deal either; I think it may have been a shotgun promotion...

I'll have to see how it shoots...  It also has a Mossberg Scope on it too...

I would replace the scope. It is probably a cheap Bushnell Sportsman, BSA or Tasco.

I have the 4x4 in .270 and can hit the same holes at 100 yds with no problem. The factory scopes suck. They are made by DKG, not even a Tasco...Any Bushnell scope would be better. I gave mine to my son to play with. (The scope...) Anyway- just thought I would add to an old ass post.
