Anyone shoot a Cooper.
« on: June 30, 2010, 06:25:27 AM »
I have got the Cooper bug.  After seeing some of the factory targets from these rifles I just got to have one.  Can anyone tell me about the Cooper rifle?  Anyone ever shoot one?  I am thinking to get one in a 270.

I have two Cooper 57M LVT rimfire rifles. One is a 17 HM2, the other a 17 HMR. They are very well made and accurate. I keep thinking I should get  a  Cooper centerfire rifle because I am very pleased with the rimfire rifles.

Those old mossbergs sure do shoot good. Mine is stamped J C Higgens but mfg. by mossberg and it a real shooter.   ;)  You'll be hard pressed to find any 22 that you can hand carry that will shoot better than a mossberg..

I have a Cooper Model 22 Phoenix in .308 Win. It loves 168 SMK's and Varget. Push the bullet at about 2700 fps and it will shoot one little ragged hole all day. I have several custom rigs from other rifle makers that cost many times that of the Cooper. It holds it's own. It is impressive for a production rifle.

I have of them, one in .20 Vartarg and one in .223AI.  Both will shoot under a half inch 5 shot groups anytime.  The worksmanship is top-drawer on both. Both are heavy barrel varmint guns though.
That target thing is a little bogus though, their range is 42 yards, not 100.  They don't claim it's a 100 but most folks just "assume".

Their gurantee is three shots in a half inch at 100 yards. Since I've never even seen one in person much less shot one I can't speak to a target packed with it but the accuracy promise is clearly defined on their website.

I'd love one but none of the local dealers I've asked about them even know how to order one for me. There is a place in B'ham that is a dealer tho. Who knows some day I might wind up with one tho I honestly don't need it. My Remington Varmint rifles are all about half inch guns generally even with five shots not three and my big game rifles easily stay within an inch for three at 100. Heck my R700 LSS .257 Weatherby shoots three into a half inch with two different loads I've worked up using a Barnes 115 TSX and Nosler 120 PT. I can't imagine how the Cooper could do better for me as out in the field I can't hold that steady anyway but it does give great confidence to know the rifles shoot that well from the bench.
