This is a good post, thanks Oyvind. It sounds like the maker knew that the temporary carriage probably wasn't going to hold up to that first test firing with the trunnionless tube, but I don't think he foresaw that the recoil was going to turn the barrel into a rocket. In any case, the end product turned out to be one good looking rifle.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Oyvind, Can you please post a close up of the breech while open ? How are you sealing the breach ? Also can you post a photo of your shell and give a idea of shot grouping? It looks like your range is Lone pine ,very nice. I also have a 3in Navy barrel that will eventually be a Whitworth ,but has been postponed because of other jobs  :'(. I see you made your trunnion band extra long ,was that to keep barrel crush to a minimum? Is the barrel jump interfering with accuracy at all ? Thank you for your answers  Robin

Yeah I think he expected it would leave the carriage behind, it didn't have any trunnions at the time.

The range is Lone Pine Oregon.

The proof range looks like any number of gully's I  have seen in eastern Washington,  eastern Oregon, north east California, Nevada and Idaho.

I beleive Central Cycles is the Harley Davidson Dealer in Bend, OR.

Double D, I think your right...I have been told there are several cannon builders in the Bend area. This is a great little video! I hope to go to the next shoot, in the spring, Memorial Day, I believe. BoomLover
