Dolphins, Locks, and Decoration
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:33:47 PM »
Recently we acquired an artillery research library which included hundreds of pounds of paper copies of artillery books, articles, etc., plus about 20 reels of microfilmed books.  Today I got to the library and got my first look at some of the stuff that was on the microfilmed books.  I photographed some of it off the microfilm reader.  Then I had to change it from negative to positive so it would look "normal."  I've done that with 37 of the book plates which are presented here for whatever they are worth.  I think our resident Dolphin Nuts, Gary and Dan, will like the selection of dolphins presented here.

I'm also reverting back to the "Mosaic" form of slideshow for this, please comment on what you think of it.  To use it you just mouse over a thumbnail which then shows a larger image.  You can then click on it if you want larger yet, and maybe click on it again...

It looks like an Onager, a favorite Roman war machine.  See this link:       http://www.onager.com/

Really nice dolphins too!

Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!
