Only one more picture after this one, this is the parkerized barrel, it is dead easy to do, 15 minutes in the hot solution and it is done.  Larry

Looks great Larry!

What do you use to keep the solution out of the inside of the bore and chamber?

Thanks MSP...great link.  I assume there is no harmful effects to the plastic or the pump at 150-200 degrees?  I have all of that kind of stuff from my farm and ranch sprayers... just would have to assemble it.   My family would think I was building a still....hmmm...a still....

To seal the bore I use expanding rubber plugs, get them at Home Depot, they have a screw in them and when you tighten the screw down it expands the rubber plug, put one in he breach and one in the muzzel, it also gives me have  convient screw heads to hang the barrel with in the tank.  Larry

eskimo36, if you have any left over solution from your Parkerizing "Still", especially if it's an especially smooth batch just send it to me, I will properly dispose of it for you. I have not tasted any of the homemade good stuff in years....<><....  ;D

I have two more barrel blanks and an unfinished Remington 581 rf to cf conversion in the works, I really only did the project to see if it could be done, it did turn out really well I think.  I'm old and just like to tinker, so I will sell this project to finance another.  Larry

what would you do different 'next time'?
« Reply #83 on: April 25, 2007, 02:11:17 AM »
I enjoyed your posts on this project. I've wondered just what could be done about getting an unobtainable bore for a Handi Rifle,,,and you did a great job on this one. When is a .45ACP coming??
Just wanted to know,,,since finishing this rifle/barrel fitting,,,is there anything you would do different next time? Are you satisfied with the method of barrel threading/fitting to the stub that you did?
Thanks,,
Alan in GA.

I think the new .327 Federal Mag would be interesting.  I wish I had a shop to do this kind of work in.
