The season is over
« on: January 11, 2010, 01:41:33 PM »
Well the deer season is over and I have started to feed the heard of deer in my in town nabourhood, tonight there were  two does and two yearlins now there is a small buck eating right outside of my window. I just wish they were this easy out in the country,o-well town critters are a diffrent breed, but my wife and I do enjoy watching them. I will keep feeding them until spring or no more snow which ever come first. ;D ;D

I'm doing the same thing and will have some biggies.

I'm from Emporia originally.  Where do the deer come into town in Emporia.  Out by the high school?  Becker addition?

THis is from Salina on the river.  This is just one of 2 160 class deer that come within 8 yards of my bedroom. ;D

I have had a lot of luck feeding small bales of alfalfa this time of year.  Cheaper than corn---if you can find some small square dairy quality alfalfa try setting out a few flakes.  I hunt around the Hillsboro to Wichita stretch going through Newton.   Rifle hunters were pretty hard on them during the Jan doe season.
Yesterday is history--tomorrow is a mystery--today is a gift!---That is why they call it the present!

Dr.A I live on the south east side of Emporia with a lot of open land to the east of my house. I wish I had some bucks like the one you posted, most of the deer that come into my back yard are does with fawns that they are trying to push away. The one buck is just one year old now but may grow into a nice one if he stays alive.  My wife and I do enjoy watching them feed and carry on

Unless I set out the camera, its easy to miss most of the visits, as they occur in the dark or maybe even middle of the day while i'm at work.  I had a few 2 year olds last year, but we've exploded with deer this year.  Near as I can tell, we've got 50 visiting individuals and going through 1000# of grain every 2.5 weeks. This keeps them off the roads, or I wouldn't be doing it.  Fish and game is missing out on offering us a hunt in town with bows.
