What does your 22Mag like?
« on: September 13, 2009, 09:15:11 PM »
I'm looking at getting a 22Mag now and not sure if I want a Savage or Marlin or other. It will be a HB model though and Stainless is preferred but not required. My question is what does your 22 mag like and how does it shoot?

 Please fill out the following.

Make/Model:
Ammo it prefers:
Optics:
Modifications:

Have you looked at CZ?

My CZ Lux prefers either CCI 40 TMJ or CCI 40 JHP. Both shoot to the same hole at 100 yards. Winchester Super X 40 JHP would be next.
Leupold 4X RF special.

H&R Sporter
Hornady V-max 30gr. (new rubber tip stuff)
Simmons 22 Mag Rimfire Rifle Scope 4x 32
No Mod's. Well....unless you count the trigger job polish stuff that I did.

Very accurate 22 Mag. A gun I would not sell.

likes the new 30gr but shoots good groups with all of the weights you just have to dial the scope to compensate for the change in impact.

Just got another one and it only shoots good groups with the rem 33 grain ammo

Make/Model:    Marlin 882ss (something like that)
Ammo it prefers:   Just about everything, but I use Hornady 32gr v-max
Optics:      Cheapo Tasco wolrd class 6-24
Modifications:   I tried swapping a pen spring with the trigger spring and when testing it dry I had slam fires closing the bolt so I put it back to 100% factory.

I bought my marlin 22mag back in 1998 before marlin starting putting in their newer triggers.  It's been a great rifle and my only compaint is how much the 22mag ammo has gone up in those years.

I have a Ruger 77/22mag & 2 Single-sixes with the mag cylinder. No real modifications. I shoot about any ammo & plan to get some 'WRF' 22 ammo to try out next time I see it or order from Midway.

My Single Six, Likes Winchester. I had some CCI TNT that it hated. I went bact to Winchester & haven't tried anything else. It doesn't shoot .22LR any better than my old Duramatic. If I'm shoot .22 LR I shoot the Duramatic

I have a Savage 93 pre-accutrigger.  It really like the Hornady 30 gr and the Federal 50 grain, but Maxi-mag is acceptable.

My Henry 22 mag absolutely loves  the  Fiocchi 40 gr JHP, Hornady 30gr and the Winchester Dynapoints. CCI 40gr JHP and TMJ are a close 2nd.

I have a savage bolt action and when I bought it I tried every kind of ammo I could buy at the time. It definitely shoots Federal 50 gn hollowpoints the best. It also shoots cci 40 gn solids and hollowpoints well. All the 30 gn stuff and winchester loads it shoots terrible.

I have two.
Marlin 882 Likes the 32 grain CCI maxi Mag, Rem 33 grain Bal. tip, 34 grain win JHP, and the Fed 30 grain.
First squirell was shot with a 40 grain FMJ.
The handi Likes the Lighter bullets too.  So I can find the 33 grain rem easiest.
I want to find one that will shoot the Fed 50 grain bullets.

My Win. 9422M likes 40 gr. Win. loads, doesn't like the old Fed. 50 gr load at all.

My Winchester M-255 lever gun will just eat up the X ring with Fiocchi 40 grain soft points, their 40 grain HP isn't quite as good. There is no way this rifle should shoot like that with a two piece stock and a pipe stem barrel supporting both a tube magazine and a rather sloppy fitting forend but somehow it just shoots.
I've also found the Fiocchi 40 grain to be among the best in my AMT Automag ll pistol, Rem 33 grains were slightly better but not enough to be a concern. AND as a bonus, the Fiocchi brand from Grafs is the cheapest .22 mag I've found. Well except for Winchester Dynapoints which are just horrible in the three guns I own.

My question is what does your 22 mag like and how does it shoot?

 Please fill out the following.

Make/Model: NEF Sportster .22WMR
Ammo it prefers:Anything with WINCHESTER on the box, but I have it zeroed with Win Supreme 32gr
Optics:Bushnell 3-9x40mm, cheap I know, but it seems to be working!
Modifications:I relieved the forend to free float the barrel and added an O-ring at the takedown screw.

I took it out and shot various ammos out to 200 yards recently.  The three Winchester ammo I tried worked wonderfully at all yardages.  Win Super X 28gr JHP Tin shot the highest, Win SUPREME 32gr was in the middle and I found I have it ZEROED at 200yds exactly with the way I have it sighted, and Win DYNAPOINT 45gr grouped the lowest.  I tried some new CCI's I hadn't tried before and this rifle dislikes EVERYTHING with CCI on the box!

Good luck!

Well so far my H&R Sportster likes the CCI 40 gr TMC.  The only other available .22 WMR ammo in my area is the CCI JHP and Remington 32-gr with the little poli tip, and I haven't tried that yet

Well I went up to the upper pasture where it is mostly set up as a private range.  I purchased CCI TMJ ammo, and got my Sporter sighted in at 25 yards, then moved out to 100 yards.

I still have some more shooting to do, as always another excuse just to shoot  ::)

Here is the barrel at 100 yards.

After getting an acceptable group at 100 yards and making a few adjustments then I moved to the corner of the target visable on the barrel, but acceptable 100 yard accuracy for this little .22 WMR Handi Rifle.

My 925 BA marlin will shoot the win. super-x good up to 50 yds. Past that, not good at all. But I tried the win. supremes 34 gr. and it shoots real good groups that I can cover with a nickel at 75 yds. Haven't tried 100yds. But I'll give it a try in the the next week or 2. I'll try a box of CCI TMJs to see how it likes them.  ;)

My old Winchester 9422 likes Winchester Dynapoint 45grn HP ammo.  It wears a Bushnell 2x7 scope and a sling.  That Dynapoint load works great on Coyote and turkey - it expands and penatrates, but does not explode like lighter, faster ammo does.

Many years ago i bought a new Rem. 597M, and sighted it in with 40 grain ammo.  Since then it shoots every brand 40 grain ammo i've tried, to the same point of aim, no matter what the brand.

To this day, my 597 has never failed to load, fire and function perfectly every time i pick it up.  It's my "go to gun" for pest control here on my place.
