Remington 700ML

Do these 700 bolt action Muzzleloaders still have any value?  I have mine consigned at a local gunshop, but I think I may be wasting my time. None of the gunshops seem to want any used ML's on trade.  I think since the inlines/break opens have gotten more affordable, these bolt actions are less popular.  If anybody has had some experience with them, please let me know.  Thanks!

I have one and it's very accurate.  I love mine.  The 700ML is an inline.  I have no use for the break opens myself.  Sell it online.

With muzzloaders if it isnt this years new model it doesnt have the value it once did, My son and I both have the Rem. 700 ML and for several yrs. have both used them to get a deer during that season, keep it and enjoy shooting it.   Jim

the ones i see for sale are all aound 300$ or close to it, but i dont see them selling very fast either.as another poster said, if it aint the new hot thang then it aint worth much.they do have somewhat of a cult following so if yu can find sumone looking for one, yu may make a sale.

Thanks HillBill - the best I could find was one large gun shop here that would give me $100 on a trade.  Their prices are quite high on just about everything, so I really did not want to trade with them.  I may keep it yet, but my son wants to get into muzzleloading, and I want him to use one that is simpler to clean and maintain.  Thanks again for the feedback - that is the neat thing about these forums.

I have a 700MLS that I purchased after Christmas one year on redtag special at Walmart.....best money I ever spent. Still has the #11 percussion cap system, and shoots 200 grain Shockwaves into .5 inch groups at 100 yards and crosses the screens at close to 2000 fps. I have killed 35 deer and one Gobbler with it.....now my son uses it and he is 5 for 5.  It and my Knight Disc Elite SS are two of my most accurate guns....day in and day out, simply boringly accurate.

I just hate to stay up late cleaning them with TLC after another big buck bites the dust.

i keep hearing that the 700ml is hard to clean, i must have rare one then cuz mine only takes a few min. pull 3 allen screws out, remove stock, stik barrell in bucket of hot soapy water, ram patch up and down till clean. dry everything off and throw it all on the bench till yu get time to put it back together.the bolt can be a pain to dissasemble, usually if im in a hurry ill set it in a pan of kerosene till i get around to it.

A buddy of mine runs a gun shop. He won't hardly put one on consignment let alone take one on trade. Wit hused blackpowder guns, ya just don't know what you're getting into. Gunked up or rusted, pitted barrels are the norm. You'll do better by either hanging onto it or waiting until right before the next BP season to sell it.

They aren't hard to clean and I never took mine out of the stock until I sold it.  No rust at all.

If you bought it new it came with a plastic tube. Remove the bolt, breach plug and incert the tube. Stick muzzle in a bucket of boiling hot water with a bit of dollar store dish soap,m work cleaning rod ram rod up and down several times. Dump water and repete in clean clear boiling water. The barrel will dry it's self but if you wish run some patches thru it. then run some with some type of oile thru it.
I have two and would not trade either one for the newest lattest Muzzle loader on the market.
the 54 and 50 both shoot about any thing you stuff down the bore very well.

Cleaning the bolt is slick with the bolt tool. I bought mine at Gander mountian.


Mike has a kit to shoot BH 209 with it too.

any chance of getting a pic of the bolt tool?
id like to make one of my own.i dont have much prob takeing the bolt apart but it can be a pain.if i could make or buy a tool to make it easier id like that.in my opinion the bolt only needs to be takeing apart a couple times a year, but then that depends on how much yu shoot.iof yur shooting 10-20 rounds a session then yu need to clean it every time, if yur shooting 1 or 2 shots at a time mine seems fine with a before and after deer season cleaning.

I'll see what I can do about getting a picture and some measurements of the bolt tool. I had heard they were not made any more by some one so making one is the way to go.

This is the end with the smaller opening. The notch is where the bolts (what is it?) tang sticks down goes. Inside is a groove.


You place the bolt in the tool rotate it at least a quarter turn and pull back on the tool while holding the bolt and turning it.

Small opening. the measurement for the bigger opening is blurred so I will redothat one.



Here you can see the groove inside about 1/8 inch. Yes it does come apart, one screw in the middle.
