Ron Paul Says Agenda Behind Bombing Incident Is More War, More Attacks On Liberty
Text size

Tuesday, December 29, 2009
Congressman Ron Paul fears that the agenda behind the Flight 253 bombing incident is to expand the war on terror into Yemen while stripping Americans of more liberties, warning that it’s time people woke up and realized that the government cannot guarantee their safety.

The Congressman highlighted how the bombing attempt followed geopolitical turmoil in Yemen in the form of attacks in the country launched by the Saudis with the endorsement of the U.S. – and how sectors of the media and politicians were now calling for Yemen to be a new front in the war on terror as a consequence of the Christmas Day incident.
“It seems ironic that there is so much excitement about this and now talk about attacking Yemen,” said Paul, adding that it was the United States’ presence in Yemen that represented a threat to America, not the purported presence of Al-Qaeda members in Yemen.
Two days after the incident, influential neo-lib Joe Lieberman cited the attempted plane bombing in calling for Yemen to be the next target of the military-industrial complex after Afghanistan, claiming the plot had links back to the Middle Eastern nation.
Paul raised the question of how a $75 billion dollar a year intelligence gathering structure failed to stop a dangerous man who had no passport and was on a terror watch list from boarding a plane.

“It really scares me because we do so much already – we spend $75 billion dollars on intelligence gathering in this country in order to protect us and make us safe, so with $75 billion dollars we weren’t able to detect this individual where there’s a glaring warning sign,” said Paul, citing the fact that the bomber’s father tried to warn the U.S. that his son was a threat a month ago.
Paul labeled the nature of the incident, “Either awful stupidity or there must be an agenda….I am concerned what they are going to do to the American people,” citing how the 9/11 hijackers were also known to the authorities, who were warned that they were only training to learn how to fly a plane and not how to land, but that nothing was ever done about it.
Paul said the people punished for the incident would not be those who failed to stop the terrorist, but the American people.
“They’ll add some more security on to us – first they make us take off our shoes and then our belts and then small bottles of water and put our computers in a tray and on and on so something else is going to happen, they won’t let us get out of our seats or look at our bags….thinking that’s going to make us a lot safer,” said Paul, adding that security should be managed by airline companies and not the government.
“The bigger the problem and the more the fear is built up, the more they take away our personal liberties and turn us all into zombies and the American people go along with it and say as long as it makes us safer I guess it’s OK to go along but it’s time the American people woke up and started realizing that there’s a bit of propaganda going on and quite possibly this incident will not only undermine our personal liberties but will also accelerate our intervention and the violence occurring in the Middle East,” concluded the Congressman

Ron Paul needs to do some homework before he runs his mouth.  Because Pakistan is taking the fight to al Queda with a vengeance; Yemen is quickly becoming the primary operating base for all of al Queda.  Yemen is in a state of anarchy:  Iran is supporting crazy Yemeni Shiites who are attacking into Saudi Arabia.  Al Queda in Yemen calls itself "Al Queda in the  Arabian Peninsula".  The leaders of this al Queda operation are two former Gitmo "detainees" who were released by George Bush acting on an appeal of the Saudi king.

All of this is why I wouldn't vote for Ron Paul for President.  I like what he says about government spending and matters of that nature, but when it comes to dealing with this country's enemies--not so much.

For the most part I don't disagree with Paul on this. Who better to provide security of a plane than the wealthy owners. They KNOW, that if they don't folks will stop getting on them. THEN and only THEN, will security be secure.
Security! Want an interesting word. Ben Franklin said: ANYONE whom will give up A LITTLE FREEDOM, for A LITTLE SECURITY, DESERVES NEITHER.
I agree with Benjamin Franklin too.

I don't think there's an airlines in the world that isn't losing money.  They aren't wealthy.

I think what Ron P is trying to tell us is they are milking the American tax payer for intelligence gathering but they don't do anything with the intelligence they gather...due to the nature of the ones in charge.
So they will likely spend twice as much, and still not do anything...and on it goes.  This boils down to not having the sand to deal with what you need to do once you have information...typical of the progressive feel good types who seem to be in charge now.

Sounds like he is also worried about the ever expanding war because of idiots in our own country who fail us time and time again.  When we do go to war, we are not allowed to do it properly and kill everything in sight....so even that is fouled up by our own leaders who do not have the stomach for war, but yet sacrifice our solders anyway....all in the name of politics.

For then ones who support the wars....you should only support them if we are willing to torch it all and win right away, if you are unable to stomach this, you should not support any wars.  We have the power to kill almost every living thing by air power alone.  It appears to me as if lots of people are supporting the war that don't have the sand to call war what it really is.  Also typical of the progressive types, who do not think of each solders death, and in fact, prefer each solders death, to all of the enemy dying at once.

We would be better off pulling out and coming home if nobody has the sand to actually go to war.
I can't see the sense in it myself.  After 9/11 we could have cooked the entire area and killed them all plus their neighbors.....I doubt we would have have too much trouble after that and it all would have been a lot cheaper.  We could have also cleansed our country from within and kicked out all illegal people as well.

Being nice and politically correct is getting our solders killed, and wrecking us economically as well.

Well TM...I never once claimed to be a Christian, not even sure what one is after reading so many opinons on the subject. Not sure what a Neocon is either.

But I am logical....either someone needs killing, or they don't....anything in between can be explained by people like you who have a knack for lots, and lots...and lots...of words.

Have a happy new year....and stay home if you have a drink.

i feel the same way about Ron Paul. i buy in on alot he says about spending the constitution, however, when it comes to his view of the world and how to deal with it he simply gets to far out there. A little looney.

jimster:

amen on the killing of any that are our enemy. i do not care if they were disgruntled or lonely youths ( thats the new view of the latest would be murderer by the left) i simply do not care if they hate American Oil or George Bush. The fact is they need and must be eliminated as quickly as possible. the lefties want us to analyse their fellings and other such childish garbage. kill them do it fast and overwhelming and many of our soldiers will be spared. i do not care in the slightest how many of them die.

that the problem with bho he simply does not have the guts stomack or whatever to do what has to be done. none on the far left do. it is their stupid school ground mentality that is endangering us. yesterday i listened to Chris Matthews proclaiming that all the hatered and opposition to Obama was Racial and that there was no other explination. That shows anyone with any sense just how stupid these people are. in their minds you can not oppose health care for fear of the mounting debt and intrusion in you life nor the willingness of Obama to bow to our enemy without it being Racial Hate on your part.

they simply are so far out of touch with anyone with any sense it is pathethic. they just do not get it that it has nothing to do with his color. they simply can not believe that everyone would not support all his policies.

I agree with much said here, and have no use for Obama. HOWEVER! HIS PREDECESSOR had eight years and did not. Obama has been at it a little less than a year. Why is everyone so mad at Obama, when Bush had 8 times the opportunity and didn't take it, and everyone continually defends him? It would seem to me and many that Bush was very good at starting things, but also lacked the stomach to finish it in a reasonable time. This thing in Iraq has been going on for 18 years now. A Republican Pres started it, a Democrat participated in it, and a Republican Pres, accelerated it for 8 years but did nothing to end it.
Bush the Republican had an opportunity to scorch the earth of Afghanistan after 911, but opted for shooting everyone in IRAQ and backed off Afghanistan. ::)

Dee, you do not understand at all.   ;D  Bush is supposed to get a pass because he is a lesser evil than Obama.  Bush steadfastly refused to put enough boots on the ground in Afghanistan to get the job done.  He ran all over the world begging countries to send troops to Afghanistan.  The Bush bunch made a big deal about getting bin Laden but they really never tried to do that either.  Bush and the neo-con artists were afraid that bin Laden would be captured alive and spill the beans on the entire CIA operation in Afghanistan and the bin Laden family's involvement with Bush.   Immediately after 911 some bin Laden family members in the US wanted to talk with the FBI but Bush forbid the FBI to talk with them.

http://www1.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/articleshow?art_id=1030259305

newsnight said there was a long history of "shadowy" american connections with saudi arabia, not least the two presidents bush’s "business dealings" with the bin ladens and another more insidious link revealed by the former head of the american visa section in jeddah. the official said he had been concerned about visas issued to large numbers of "unqualified" men "with no family links or any links with america or saudi arabia", only to find out later that it "was not visa fraud" but part of a scheme in which young men "recruited by osama bin laden" were being sent for "terrorist training by the cia" after which they were sent on to afghanistan.

in a reiteration of a now well-known claim by one of george w bush’s former business partners, the bbc said he made his first million 20 years ago on the back of a company financed by osama’s elder brother, salem. but it added the more disturbing assertion that both presidents bush had lucrative stakes along with the bin ladens in carlyle corporation, a small private company which has gone on to become one of america's biggest defence contractors. the bin ladens sold their stake in carlyle soon after september 11, it said.

american politicians later told the bbc programme that they rejected the accusation that the establishment had called the dogs of the intelligence agencies off the bin ladens and the royal house of saud because of a strategic interest in saudi arabia, which has the world's biggest oil reserve.

So who says you can put enough boots on the gound in Afghanistan to get the job done....and what job would that be??  Exactly?
I understand the debate on Bush vs. Obama....no problem there.  Bush was a bad one...for a long time..yepper...no problem here with that.

What I'm not getting is this crazy idea somehow if we send gobs of our soldiers there we somehow....we win...what??  We certainly can't be talking about nation building here, the entire world just watched how our Congress whores themselves out and spends the people's money....we can't possibly expect anyone in the world to respect anything WE have at this point...so nation building must be out right? I'm sure they are all laughing at our corrupt government there and see no future in copying us.  So we are what? Killing bad guys?  Forever and ever and ever...??  Just certain ones eh?  Just hang out there and carefully kill only certain one, after we read them their rights or something eh?  How is that working so far?  When is the last time we won a "war" and what did we have to do to win it?  Think about that long and hard.

We should never go to war or cross any borders EVER...unless we are willing to use our ultimate power and wipe it all out at once.  Anything less is politics and guttless and a waste or our people in the service.  If anyone had any real guts running this country they would pull everyone home right now all at once and let the rest of the world say what they will.  Then clean up the people here that are not supposed to be here.  After that...something happens...toast them so bad the rest of the world won't believe the horrors of real war.  Get some fear back in the ones who think we are soft, and some respect from those who understand, and to hell with everyone else in between.  That's my "doctrine"...because one American soldier is worth more than any number of who you would call an enemy.  Has to be that way...or your sons and daughters will die either by the enemy over there, or here.  We'll all be broke to top that off.

So here we are now...forget all the past for a minute and think about now.  Does Obama have the sand to stand up and say these things I'm talking about and realize he is just getting more soldiers killed for politics with nothing to win, nothing to gain, and no way to come home at all?  Well, no...he needs to look a certain way, Congress needs to look a certain way, but nobody has the guts to do what needs to be done in a real war. Because a soldier to them is like a tv show. Not real.  Their lives are worth no more to them than the life of the enemy....it's a game to them.

A soldier to me is my son...or your son or daughter, and they are being used as political pawns.  You will never "win" anything over there...not ever...they know it, and most of you know it too.  The reason we are still there is to "look" a certain way to the American people and the rest of the world....helliva a reason to kill a young soldier.

The US can stay in Afghanistan for 100 years and it will make no difference at all:  As soon as US combat troops pull out of Afghanistan the place will go right back to its normal state:  Anarchy.

i remember it well.....when bush was running around begging everyone to help it was the left he was trying to please. they demanded that we only act if we had a coalition of some sort. (meaning blessings of the others) that was his mistake but he just could not take the heat of acting alone. i give him no pass on anything he has done wrong and i will not give obama one either.

they both failed Bush should have persued Bin Laden with or with out permission or blessings of the other countries. he should have sealed our southern borders but did not...SO WHAT! that was then and i am concerned about NOW. one thing we all know is that he was not afraid to take on the terrorist right or wrong agree or disagree.

Obama wants it all to be peaches and cream when it is not. being the president is not an easy job that is for sure. however, he wanted it and claimed he had what it takes. so i have every right to expect obama to do his job and if he can not get out of the office. bush failed us in many ways ...SO WHAT! that was then and now is now i am i more concerned about the president i have now and what actions he is taking now than one that is no longer the president.

Obama does not give anyone confidence that he knows what he is doing. Not with the military nor with the economy. That worries me for sure and apparently millions in America feel as I do. even some of his loyal democrats have lost faith in him.

All the wrong moves  no matter where you are looking he simply is in over his head.

Simply put OBAMA DOES NOT GET A PASS JUST BECAUSE BUSH DID OR DID NOT! Its time for him to grow up and accept responsibility in all areas , he is the president. but like all on the left they never do they always find someone else to blame. I want someone with backbone in that office and one of the most important things is that he or she be willing to HE has the job now and i say put up or shut up.

Ron Paul is a very, very smart guy. He'd make a better President than Obama or McCain.

Paul is blessed with common sense and common decency.
It's a damn shame  he is the only politician in DC that can claim both those attributes!

What a good man, and what an uphill battle he has taken on.I think he knows this country as a freedom beacon is lost, but he continues to do all he can to preserve it.

Paul is just one man........Can you imagine what it would do for this country to have , "say" four more like him?
