OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state legislator from Norman says Oklahomans should be able to buy guns a few days each year without paying taxes on them.

State Sen. John Sparks, a Democrat, is proposing legislation that he says would set up a "Second Amendment Weekend." If fellow lawmakers approve the measure and becomes law, all rifles, handguns and shotguns would be tax free on a few days a year. The measure would not apply to gun accessories.

Sparks said the tax break is a good idea even in a recession.

"I don't think there is ever a bad time to defend our Second Amendment rights, and I think we should do so every chance we get," Sparks said.

Similar proposals have been approved in other states.

One of our Reps. got a law passed a few years ago that gives all Oklakomans the right to have arms so that they can hunt and also fish. He saw this as a way to stop the feds from imposing gun control on the people of Oklshoma.
We already have a tax free weekend for families that are buying things to send their children back to school.

I hope his law passes.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

ALSAGR....  for a minute I thought I read this guy is a dumcrap. ... POWDERMAN.

this is the sort of partisan crap that hardens positions and does little to advance the cause of 2nd Amendment Rights. While the Dems are generally the party of the gun-grabbin', there are lot of Dems who are good people, and a fair number of them who support 2nd Amendment rights. We should encourage them.

of course, should Mr. Sparks ever make it to the national scene, the left will hold this bit of advocacy against him.

We actually already have this in SC.   One of the few times riders did some good :).

Several years ago we passed a law that gives a "sales tax free weekend" right before the kids go back to school.  The tax breaks apply mostly to things kids can use in school - namely office/school supplies and clothes, but there was a rider successfully attached that added guns as tax free items on that weekend too :).  I'm sure the retailers love it the whole thing.  People hit the stores in droves that weekend (admittedly they're probably going for the other stuff more than the guns, but I'm sure some take advantage of that too - if I had my eye on one locally I'd certainly take advantage of it).

Yep, he is a Democrat.  So what!!!  Our Democrat governor signed the OK Stand Your Ground law into effect.  Only two Democrats in the OK legislature voted against it.
