persnally id use the 22 mag and lung shoot them. they will run off and die. yu wont have to dispose of them.
bad idea if they run off and die in his neighbors yards. id use a 12 gauge and some number 4 buck shot

Would the buck shot penetrate at 100 yards?

Lonny

i assumed that since he said they were in his trash that they would be close
common sense is slowly becoming uncommon

Thanks for the replies.  Neighbors know I hunt, and I am legal to hunt here, just want to stay friends with my neighbors.  I tried to buy both of my buddy's handirifles, he told me times were not "that bad"! Just needed to sell one to do a car repair.   Jeff

#4Buck is awsome stuff.  I've killed mule deer with #4B out to 60-70 yards, and once shot a raven out of the air at close to 100yds with 4B.  Had to lead it considerably!  The single pellet that went completely through the bird was evidently still packing some velocity.

Also EnvironMetal, the company that makes Hevi-Shot shells makes some 2 3/4in, 3in, and 3 1/2inch "Dead Coyote" loads - all made with T-shot sized buckshot.  They're pricey, but I've wondered  if they would make reasonably good self-defense loads, and not just dead-dog loads.  (FWEIW  ;D )

I make it a habit to fire off a round or two every couple of days. (into a good backstop)  This way if a legal deer wonders onto my few acres and I have a safe shot the neighbors are accustomed to the noise and don't worry about it.

If the neighbors are 250 yds away they probably won't hear a 38 spcl from the handi even if they are outside.

Couger, if you're in the States, that Raven shot could have cost you 2000 bucks....they're protected migratory birds, that I believe are protected in Canada also.  I wouldn't brag about it if I were you.

In many areas people use Raven and Crow synonymously.  If'ns it were are crow, then he's ok.

Here in Washington there's a season on crows that runs Oct-Jan, crows in the act of depredation may be taken at any time. Ravens are protected wildlife since they are not game birds, all birds not classified as game birds, except, starlings, house sparrows, rock doves (pigeons) and magpies, are protected.

personally i'd recommend the 22 mag and shoot from inside a partially closed window.  The neighbors won't hear a thing.....if they're in your trash.... move it closer to the house for a better shot.

Beeen there , done that. Our church had too many groundhogs around. I sat back well inside and used a .22LR subsonic. One caution however, pick a high window so somebody cannot suddenly walk by and get shot. With the high window, time the line of sight was out low enough to endanger anyone, I had a very wide field of view.
Of course, where the church is located...I didn't really expect anyone to walk by the window...but better safe than sorry.

If you have any extra tires in your garage, you could stand some up in a side by side line to make a "tire tunnel"..that would absorb some noise by firing through the tunnel.
Still; the .357 loaded to subsonic with HP wadcutters and only fired one time upon occasion, strikes me as the best idea.

None of my neighbors have yet to complain about my shooting, at least two of them hunt themselves and shoot at thier houses. I shoot everything from 17mach2 to 12ga slug guns and my 308s. I agree with most people here get the 357. Shoot 38s in it and the people probably wont even here it.
