New to me 25-06

Made a trade yesterday for a 25-06 Handi. The guy that had it new nothing other than he took the scope off of it for himself and oiled the crap out of it to make it shine.. ::) The bore looks like it's seen very little use and that long barrel makes it look like a real shooter! It's an NU model and I was looking for some factory ammo opinions before I go buy some?

If anyone has any extra rounds laying around, I'd be interested in buying them as well..

My NV model likes Federal Premium 117 grain SGKs and Hornady factory loads with the 117 grain SSTs.  Previous owner used 117 or 120 grain Remingtons.  I use the SGKs for deer and the SSTs for turkey.

Good timing!

I'm going to be looking for a .25-06 at the gunshow this weekend and am considering a Handi!  Do you mind if I ask how much you gave for it?

Anybody have any other comments on Handi's and the .25-06?

 My son gave 235 or 245 for a 270 and 25-06 last summer at two gun shows.
 I don't remeber which price for which gun, Both had scope base and hammer spurs.

I trade a Mac 9mm that I bought from a guy at work (needed money).... Ammo is a little hard to find around here. All I've found is is some 85 grain premium and that's not really what I had in mind...

I worked up a couple of loads for a bolt 25-06 using RL 19 under 110 gr Accubonds and Interbonds that need some fine-tuning for the Handi.  Next powder to try will be the new Hybrid 100 by Hodgdon with the same 2 bullets.  Then maybe some 4831, either H or IMR.  Good luck with yours.  DP

I used mainly H-414 with Sierra 120gr HPBT's.  I bought a can of H-4831SC right before I sold my Winchester M70 .25-06 but never got to try it, so I'll be testing that with the next .25-06.

I acquired a full case of Federal 117 Hi Shock ( red box) then I got a Handi , (have more in the ammo than the gun).Luckily it shoots real well in it .I don't think I will shoot anything else in it .
