If you could only have one centerfire rifle you would be wise to choose one chambered for 30/06. It's versatility is incomparable.

Must have just to have or needed to hunt or all North American game?
Just to have: all of them. ;) :D
Just to hunt: 12ga with screw in choke for versilitity and 30.06. ;) ;D

I must add to this. The 30-30,38-55,when properly set up and the 45-70. I will add the 357 when I can find one I like  ;D

Agreed. But if I'm going "big" it's going to be in one of my Mauser 98s.

I just don't like the high power rimless cartridges in the Handi. I know they can take it, but it just seems appropriate to shoot something more "old fashioned" in a break action.  ;D
