Making Lugs and Weld/Braze to Barrel
« on: January 02, 2010, 04:55:09 PM »
Has anyone tried this to make a lug and weld or braze to barrel to fit the NEF?  Just wondering how it may work out?  This thread gives the drawings for the lug and how to attach to a barrel.

I would bet you could contact Night owl enterprises and reference the drawing numbers and buy all the lugs you can afford. I have never seen a CNC shop that very got rid of a program. I don't believe the welding is a big issue as long as the preheat and cool down is done properly. H&R welds these up every day. The only thing I have noticed is (on the Handis I have) is that there has been a flat ground on the barrel where the lug is attached.

Yes welding a lug to a barrel is a VERY BIG DEAL and while factories set up to do so might make it seem easy it is really NOT that easy and doing it wrong is EXTREMELY UNSAFE and VERY DANGEROUS.

How you like it if that lug came loose on firing and the barrel came back into your face? Or if you used too much heat doing it and made the chamber area of barrel brittle and it just exploded in your face?

We ARE NOT going to encourage such things on this site. This discussion is OVER.
