Can't wait for Dove Season
« on: August 16, 2010, 05:06:26 PM »
I got an invitation to a shoot over soybean and peanut fields on Sat 9-11 outside of Fayette. Later, I got another e-mail that a shoot in Faunsdale that was scheduled for 9-24 was rescheduled to 9-10 because there are TOO MANY BIRDS. Then on 9-16, back to Faunsdale.
Two cases of shells, 600 miles of driving, probably end up with half a dozen birds, but it will be a blast.

That sounds good and like a lot of fun. Hope that we dont get one of those darn lil cold snap mornings. It doesnt appear that we are but Ive had fields loaded up with birds and a couple mid 50s mornings and boom they all left in 3 days. What a bummer.Let us know what happens.
Still dreaming of that Boone and Crocket Pistol Kill!!!

I ordered a Benelli Montefeltro 20 ga from Simmons and was starting to wonder if it was going to get here before dove season.
Just before lunch, I got a text from my wife that Simmmons called and said it was in.
While I was at lunch, a buddy invited me to a shoot on opening day. I think its in Chilton Co.

Picked up the shotgun this evening. It is suh-weeet!!
It has shims for more drop and for a LH cant.
I can play with that tonight.

Now if I can make it one week, I will be sitting in the dove field with my new gun.
One more dove shoot and one more shot than my o/u had...I need to buy another case of shells.

First shot out of my new Benelli dropped the first dove of the day.
Couple of boxes of shells later, got another one.
Then it started to click and I ended up with 14 mourning doves and 2 eurasians.
14 folks at the shoot; about 10 got the limit.
Faunsdale Alabama has the best dove shooting I have ever seen.

After a 9-11 Day of Service project, headed up to Fayette for an afternoon shoot with some buddies from church.
