resizing nosler 30.06 brass to 35 whelen
« on: January 04, 2010, 10:01:05 AM »
ok i've seen a post on this before but i couldn't find it. i have a 35 whelen that i am reloading for. i prefer nosler brass but nosler doesn't make 35 whelen brass. my question is: would it be or is it possible to resize 30.06 nosler brass to 35 whelen without damaging or weakening the case neck? nosler brass is heavier and stronger than normal brass. also if it is possible what dies do i need to make this change?

That's simply not true. They made not sell the brass separately I dunno but they do have it with their headstamp on it as they sent me two boxes of loaded ammo for it right after they got into the ammo business.

But yes it's as simple as running the case into your die. Just be sure to lube the inside of case mouth to ease the expansion and use a die set with a tapered expander button.

After expanding the necks you might have to trim them to even out the necks. Used brass MAY have to be annealed to soften the neck and shoulder a bit to prevent splits.

Resizing 30-06 brass to .35 cal will shorten the neck somewhat.  Something to watch if you plan to crimp.

nosler does not sell the brass alone. i know they produce the ammo but i don't want to spend that money on loaded ammo. i tried running a 270 (lubed) case through my rcbs whelen full length sizer and it worked fine. the resized 270 case was shorter by about .020" than the hornady listed max case length. do y'all think this will be corrected when i fire-form the resized brass?
