22 semi auto help
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:02:52 PM »
I did some minor work on a new model .22 semi auto.  For some reason I cannot get the trigger group w/ bolt in place to reseat in the receiver.  It goes about half way in and hangs up tight.  I have both NRA Guide and Browning Field Service manual to go by and I followed the directions. What trick am I missing? Any help out there? Thanks

;D Got it - cartridge stop was the culprit.

I believe its the cartridge stop because when i cock the gun rounds just fly out...

I think my problem was different from yours in some respects. I had a very dirty but functioning gun that I was having trouble reassembling after cleaning.  I did not see the part (cartridge stop) in place(it fell out) when I took it apart.  While putting it all back together, the way it looked like it fit into the hole(it fit 2 ways !) the first 10 times was not right. The trigger group would not go into place to save my life!  That's when I sent out all the help requests on the forums. No helpful replies.  Finally, for some reason I put the part in "backwards" and hellfire, it fit, the trig group fit, and it fired perfect.
So-you may have a defective part and need to replace it.  Mine was working before and I just wasn't putting it in right.  When I did it worked fine. If you put it in wrong the trig group will not go into place, trust me!  Hope it helps. That was the 1st Browning .22 I'd worked on, so not a lot of experience to fall back on.  Good luck.  Let me know it this helped.  GHI
