Lucky me!! I just got through visiting with a rancher and picked up another 1,000 acres to trap. He even took me and showed me some more land in a different location to trap on. Now I have to come up with more traps and hope the old body will hold up to it. He also gave me permission to drive my truck all over the place so not a lot of walking to do.
POINT IS: If you have some ground that looks good-- dress fairly decent; go PERSONALLY to the land owner and talk with him; be courteous and polite; explain EXACTLY what you want to do. I even carry a trap with me to show him it ain't going to hurt calves or cattle. Sometimes that is all it will take. This rancher even asked if I would dispatch any ground hogs and armadillos that I saw. I told him I would do that for him when I saw one. Now the fellow is thanking me when it is me who should be doing the thanking. Think I'll take him a good big mess of catfish fillets. Sure want to keep this guy happy!!

Now Joe does a 1000 acres realy qualify as a ranch in OK? Heck in these parts thats the corrals, holding pens and loading shoot! :shock:

Yep, here a 1,000 acres is a pretty good sized spread. Most of the farmers in my immediate area only run up to 1/2 section. That makes it sort of tough sometimes since not all will give you permission and sometimes I have to drive all over the country to check traps.

You're ABSOLUTELY right Joe...I have a local ADC business and also work with the fish/game 5-7mo out of the year...I had a guy about 55mi from home that has a game farm(190acres) and is loosing ALL his birds...I went up to see him. Before it was done I picked up 7 farmers/ranchers and over 6000 acre's to trap..EXCLUSIVELY...no hunting or trapping by anyone else..AND given permission to hunt pheasants..black ones..white ones..golden ones..keep your reputation on the up & up..it'll pay you big time. This deal wasnt worth my time to even waste the gas to go look at....but.. I did the guy who raises the birds a favor...talk about a gift horse...setting it up tomorrow.
