Date With the Knife?
« on: January 28, 2010, 09:10:40 AM »
I recently had a stress test, following the procedure I was told by the technician that I performed as well as any 22 year old, I walked away feeling great.  A few days later I receive a phone call from my cardiologist; he said there were some abnormalities in the test results and scheduled me for a CT scan.  A few days later I got the CT scan then last Thursday I received a phone call from my primary care physician saying the CT scan revealed a large mass on my left lung.  That was a shock, but doesn’t worry me too much since I had a similar problem several years ago. (That proved to be scar tissue from a gun shot wound I received many years ago.  The bullet went through my lung and lodged in the bottom of my heart.  I was in the Air Force at the time, the military doctors seen me and said all my wounds were superficial and returned me to duty.)

Back to the original story……I received a phone call from my cardiologist this past Friday, he said the CT scan revealed two blocked arteries.  I go in tomorrow for a cardiac catheterization, he said he would try stints, but if that’s not possible I would need another by-pass surgery.  Its been 21 years since my first, they say most have to be redone after about 12 years, I guess I am overdue.

Keep me in your prayers, and if all works out well I will be back Monday. ::)

Hopefully all goes well!  Surgery is always scary but look on the bright side: better that they catch it before something goes wrong rather than after.

Good luck!

Rockbilly:  Hope all goes well, Maybe the stints will do the job.  Wish you the best of luck either way.

In 2001 I had a by-pass, told the surgon then never again.  I'll die first.

In 2003 by-pass failed, cardiologist wanted to redo the by-pass, I said "NO".  For the next two years I could hardly move.  Just walking out the door to the truck caused me to break out in a sweat.

In 2005 I was having chest pains and they did a cath.  Was able to punch through the stoppage from 2001 and I got a stint.

Today I do anything I want, like packing a 100lb Grizzly hide out on my back.  Or a five day snow machine trip into the mountains.  Just keeping up with my lovely little Red Head, that's several years younger than I am speaks volumnes.

Again best of luck, Rog

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
