i am looking for some info and value for a 1937 VZ 24 in 8mm with no import marks and no crest on it and does that make it more collectible or less collectible and any other info you can offer about these rifles

I'll start off with a good question.....tell me about the RIFLE.  Matching?  Has the crest been scrubbed or is it 1937 accross where the crest would be?

I would need to see it and look at the bore condition and crown, wood condition , any pitting under forearm?

I gave $140 for my last non crest VZ-24...they have increased I think since then.

I am good on any SHARP looking and clean Mauser up to $200 pretty easily.....I have my 03 as well and its easy to order direct for me so I keep my prices consistently lower.  I will pay more for a HOLD IN MY hands example that i know is good.

i agree about paying more for one i can hold so i know it is good. the crest was not on it when he got it and doesn't look scrubbed off. would guess it is all matching and the bore is good
but he didn't mention any pitting  anywhere
to me it looks like 1937 is where the crest would be

Aim Surplus has these for i think $200 in 8mm.  They did offer some that needed a fixin by missing some parts for $109.  Century arms has the VZ24 listed with markings and without markings at nearly the same price.  I ordered a VZ24 in 7mm and received a south american rifle with the rust too.  It was $169 and called in "Good Condition"  and i would hate to see the fair to poor conditions.  Its going to take one winter season to restore it.  I don't trust century arms anymore.  I think the only way to get these is from a gun show to be positive if you can't buy from aim surplus.

With collecting my luck of the draw has been to find a rare find with it scrubbed or non matching numbers and then down the road a perfect one will pop up with all the markings and matching numbers.  My point is i end up getting one for my private collection and another one to shoot and play with.  Which i kind of like because i hate to take out a rare piece to shoot.

I'm sure glad i listened to Mikey/S.S. here about the swedish mausers because i got into them on the tail end of the $175 to $225 prices and there hitting $500 now.  I'm kind of surprised that the pristine chilean 7mm mausers manufactured by DWM or LOEWE haven't sky rocketed too.  But i'm sure in another 10 years or so the cost of surplups will more than double as the availability gets harder to find as the demand rises too with new collectors.

Refresh;

My only advise is to carry two bore lights and plenty of cash when browsing for surplups and hide your extra cash in different pockets in counted amounts this way the guy at the next table doesn't see your bank roll when buying a gun next to him incase he also has something you want too. This way you can still haggle it.  Never show your wad or bankroll when haggling.
BTW; I had one bore lite go dead at one gun show. It pays to carry two pen lights to use a bore lights.  It also pays to have the mauser knowledge so you know if its rare or what the markings are too.  Shop smart and go in loaded with knowledge too but don't pass any knowledge on keep it to yourself and don't look exceited when you spot something too.

I just seen a VZ24 in 8mm scrubbed receiver for $249 today in mint condition, wood and bluing.  I may go back and look again at it.  They had a few in the rack.
