Over Under / Side By Side
« on: November 23, 2003, 12:32:53 AM »
Recently I decided that I wanted either a side by side or an over/under shotgun. I own a Rem. 870 Express 12 gauge. I am torn between Steven's model 411 Upland Sporter and the EAA IZH27. I would probably purchase two total, one for me and one for my wife. I've shot an over/under before and have a decent understanding of the gun. Does anyone have any critiques of each style of gun? Or better yet, are there some hazards associated with either? I ask you because you can only read so much online or in a magazine. I would like to know what people who use these on a regular basis think.

My preference is the O/U because of the sighting plane.  I also like the beavertail foregrip over the splinter foregrip common to most SXS.  I've heard some say the SXS has a slight advantage in the blind since you don't have to break the gun open as far to reload, but that advantage may not be substantial.  My blind is not that cramped.
