I split things up completely these days. I went back to AT&T for home phone, Verizon for my cell phone that I almost never use, Dish for TV and Cable One for internet.

So far what I've determined is there are no good or honest TV service providers. I really should just dump it totally but both Faye and Phil spend a lot of time watching TV and I watch on average about 2-3 hours per day doing so. I could live without it and within a couple weeks likely not miss it. Phil would go into full revolt if his were turned off, heck he does when the signal is lost or power goes off. I think his runs 24-7.

Some times I wish I'd never heard of the internet and had just gone ahead and moved to Alaska as I planned to all thru high school. By now maybe I'd have gotten used to cold weather or frozen to death and not have to worry about it.  ;D

Stay in touch if you can Slim we want to hear how things are going for you and your wife.

I was off-line for around 90 days last Aug through Nov. We too, needed to reconsider connections as we had been (bundled) like most.
The good part of being off line is that I was getting a lot more done, course there was a lot more to do during this time period and it was great to get back.

We did the same but have AT&t for the cell phone, Verizon for home phone (No long distant) Dish for TV and Comcast cable for internet.

Hope to see you back soon Slim.

evaluation needed .. im looking at net zero an also basis isp..both look good but the basic has more features an  you talk to an contact thats an american .. its a couple bucks higher..but nothing frustrates me more than getting an person in india if i call about my bil.. also the windstream contract that my wife apparrently sighned up on apparently has one more month until it runs out..how important is it for me to finish the contract..they gonna want another 165 that i don t have to do this.. so im kinda between a rock an a hard place....any help appreciated..
this is for fast dial up, direct tv and phone service with windstream..its my understanding the net is the only thing thats covered under that contract..the tv an phone is not in that contract..as i understand it.. also ive had to take a tougher line here at home.. the way i was trying to do it was gonna make me crazy an just about had..only thing for sure is change an the necessity for it is constant,on this earth..
 we ll see.slim

If you do not finish the contract with them they will still be calling trying to collect it from you when you both are dead and gone. I dumped a cell phone outfit after my contract period based on their welcome letter to me but they say before the contract was up. That was years ago and they are still trying to get me to pay.

I still get phone calls here trying to collect debts owed by my oldest son that are 12-15 years old. I don't think they ever stop calling but that's really all they can do they can't force you to pay such debts not even if it's valid. They will hound you forever about it tho.

I have no personal experience with any of the current crop of dial up providers as it has been many years since I was on dial up. BUT Net Zero and People PC are two of the larger and so far as I know well respected low cost dial up service providers. If you must live with dial up I think both will do as well as the rest and at as low a cost as any.

Just make sure they give you a local not long distance number to access from. So long as they do that it should be no worse than the dial up experience must be. You will require a phone modem in your computer which it might or might not now have. I don't think either of our computers here have dial up modems in them as we've not been on dial up in a lot of years. If you bought yours commercially tho they might still be putting them in. Matt generally builds all ours here and so they have only what we need not extra stuff that isn't necessary. I know for a fact I didn't buy a modem for the one I'm on now as I ordered all the parts for it and Matt just put it all together and made it work.

Slim, In Alaska senior citizens can get reduced phone service if they qualify because of poor health. You just need to show you need the service for medical & emergency calls. I don't know about internet service.

Might be worth asking. I know several shut ins that get their basic phone service for less than $2.00 a month.
