Omega x7
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:18:21 PM »
I have a omega X7 50 cal. muzzeloader, it keeps getting cracks in the stock . T/C has replaced the second one now. What is doing this? It will shoot good then throw to bullets two feet low. I checked the stock, it was splitting out the forearm agin. The first stock did the same thing. The front lug was loose and I tryed to tighten it , the screws seem to be bottomed out. Had T/C send me new ones. Do you think I could get T/C to take this gun back? I don't feel it is safe. They stoped making this gun for some reason.

I have an early original Omega Stainless with the "tupperware plastic" camo stock that I paid a lot of money for. The front lug screw is also loose (mine is also bottomed out and needs fixing). It shot great for a short time then everything went south. The plastic stocks are a joke. I really am not impressed with the Omega for the money considering how much work it takes to make the thing work as well as my CVA Optima did when received. If T/C cannot fix the stock I would make them send me a laminated one for free (considering all the hassle they should not hesitate to do that). I have read other reports where exactly the same thing was done and they sent a laminated one for free.

just send it in with a note with whats wrong and what it keeps doing, they most likely will just send you a  new rifle.

Is this the plastic or laminate?  I had 2 with laminate stocks.  I highly recommend bedding it, once you get the new one.  The action in mine was a real sloppy fit.  If it's plastic, ask for Brian in the custom shop, explain that 2 went south and it might be in their best interest (cheaper in the long run) to swap for laminate.  A #8 or #10 machine screw washer under the lug screw will help, and when bedded, it goes in exactly the same way each time.  Good luck, T-C will stand by you, for sure!

Keith,

The Omega X7 has a brown laminate stock, you might be thinking of the Z5 that comes with a tupperware stock?

Cowboy5x5,

Sorry to hear of the problems you are having. I always wanted one of those "King Of The Mountain" X7's. If they were made without the QLA, I would own one. I wonder if that light contour barrel is to light for the stock? Your loose lug sounds like a PITA? I would call T/C and REQUEST a CALL TAG be sent for you to return the rifle. Tell them you have already replaced the stock twice and about the lug. Request that they refund your money or send a brand new replacement rifle. That rifle might need to be bedded to keep that from happening again. Just make sure you tell them what it is doing. Good Luck!

Thanks Guys, for your help. Yes it is a laminate stock. I will request a call tag and see if they will take the gun back. What T/C would be the best for elk hunting , that's light weight also. Thanks Agin.

Cowboy Id try & get that X&7 fixed. Ive got one. & love it. Something to think about. pick up a synthetic & put the X7 in it. Not sure if that would work ,but it would make for a lightweight rig.
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

My early standard Omega stainless has a synthetic camo stock that is pretty flimsy. It was poorly fitted when I received it. One side of the stock was hard against the barrel and the other side of the barrel was free. The loose front mounting lug and the poor fit resulted in extremely poor accuracy. Since I had several other rifles that were good as received I never got around to fixing the Omega. I just sort of got tired of all the problems and put it in the safe for a project when I have nothing better to do. Just bought another White which is more fun to shoot, or my NEF Huntsman, or my CVA Optima Elite. I am sure the Omega would do just fine after fixing the front lug problem and bedding the stock. I think when I do it I will also install Pillars as the stock is pretty soft.

I'm not 100% positive, but pretty sure the X7 barrel contour won't fit the standard stock.  If it does, please let me know.  Also, there's not a lot of meat there for pillar blocks.  That was my prefered method, but the smith I took it to wasn't comfortable with that  so he just did a glass job.  That plus the little washer under the lug screw helped it a lot!  Believe it or not, I had one with a loose bore and it preferred the red smokeless sabots from Harvestor.
