The 87th Laconia NH Bike Week is coming up next week. (Starting June 12, 2010) Been there 11 times, and this upcoming trip will make 12 even. Myself and a couple buddies will leave on Sunday morning, and hook up with another friend in CT, then straight thru to Laconia. Have a good camp site booked at Gunstock resort, the same place they hold the hill climbs. Dual engined custom hill climb bikes with huge tractor paddle tires make for some pretty wild rides, and some pretty wild crashes as well. I would be hard pressed to walk up the side of the mountain they climb.
The area has great winding back roads for riding, a ton of lakes, good bars and restaurants, and Mt. Washington, which closes to cars for several days - Bikes only. Last time I went, it was about 75 degrees out at the base of the mt. Told the other guy to bring a coat, but he thought I was joking. When we reached the top, it was 39 degrees..
I have been to just about all the big rallies, and Laconia is one of the all around best. Daytona is better for drinking and raising he**, Sturgis is great, but so far away.... Been riding a home made chopper I built a few years ago...Its a blast in the straight aways (110 hp 110 inch motor), but being a stretched hard tail, its a back and a** killer. So a few months ago, I found a good deal on a 2001 Road King with 8 thousand miles, really clean. So far, so good. Seems to do well on the hard pack dirt roads in the local PA state forests, so I may have to rig a scabbard to carry a rifle during hunting season.
I highly recommend Laconia Bike Week for anyone in the north east looking for a fun rally.
