Jap. 99 Question
« on: January 13, 2010, 01:26:04 PM »
I have a good looking type 99 Arisaka. The bluing is great and the rifling is sharp. The one thing that spooks me though is the bolt is a last ditch. At least it looks like one. The safety is welded and there is no machining on the end of the bolt. How can I tell if the whole gun is a last ditch or just the bolt. Is there a possibility that only the safety cap was changed.

   I need some guidance!

This is a safety issue and needs the rifle looked at by a competant gunsmith. The last ditch rifles can be from barely serviceable to dangerous.. It's not something I can tell you how to judge over the internet. Save yourself some trouble and get it checked by a competant gunsmith before firing.
