In 2004 the Assault Ban---Hi Cap magazine ban will be up to either do away with it, or worse, to make it apart of the current regs.

What is your thoughts or What are you hearing about the Ban...Is it going to happen?

I don't think it will happen. The President is in political trouble over lying about the reason for war with Iraq and he won't honk any more people off than already are.

Last I heard the House was not going to do any thing about it. Just let it die. But its been a while since I have heard any thing about it.

I think the ban will die unless we have another "sniper" incident or some other major gun control issue. You'll notice that gun control weanies have been pretty quiet since 9/11 and the Iraq war compaired to before.

I expect it will not be re-instituted. What will this do to my post-ban AR-15? There are only three differences between it and a pre-ban. No flash supressor, no bayonet lug and a notched receiver to inhibit full-auto. I guess even though it will be worth squat I'll still like it. Will we be able to buy the Norinco AK47 again, or was that a different ban? :?

Personaly I'm hoping that law sunsets, so I can again buy high capacity magazines for my own handguns, I carry a Glock model 20 that is capable of holding 17 rounds of 10 mm and will with the correct magazines, putting a 10 shot magazine in that gun reduces the magazine capacity by about 42% . Somehow I just can't see the logic on how anyone would be safer from having pistols that don't have the last seven cartridges in that gun than they would be from someone having only the first 10 cartridges in the gun, it's not like the first 10 cartridges have bullets that bounce and only the last seven could possibly do any damage but then again I am a non-liberal and don't have a clue how they make up these kind of ridiculous laws/regulations, or how they think it could possibly help. If they want to do something constructive, it would seem to me, that making the penalties for the use of a handgun in a crime so severe and the punishment so inevitable and terrible that no one in the right mind would even consider committing a crime.
After all, if they started every news program every night with in-depth color photography of the convicted armed robbers being burned alive at the stake, with the victims or their victims family getting to light the fire. It should not take too long before the concept became firmly ingrained in their criminal minds that being a criminal and acting violently toward their, fellowman did not have a real good long-term outlook for those who participated in those acts

that last post got me ta thinkin--boys thats dangerous--i'm thinkin i'm liberal and -weellll-them others is tha consevative ones--folks spent a lotta brain power tryin to put morein one bullet inna gun--that was purty liberal thinkin-as outside tha box. they is purty consevative if'n they jest wont one bullet aint they--well-i could be myonself and say somthin nasty like why doan they form thayselfs a one bullet army--then we could let em got off an fight a war somewheres-then they would only be usuns-an we'd be purty happy-well- fer awhile--some fellers would get all outta shape causin i didn't like tha gun or bullet or caliber they was usin an here weuld go gain.

i really hope it goes away. so much so that i have delayed buying my car-15 until next year. and if it does there will be a new glock 20 in my near future.

First of all, I don't think of them as high-cap mags, I think of them as full-cap mags. I've emailed my reps and senators, but I live in Washington, and Seattle controls what the whole state does, and that means that my rural Washington vote is worth diddly squat. It would be nice if the ban would just sunset, and I could buy mags for my CZ 85 for less than $65. I'm not holding my breath, but I am waiting until after the sunset date to buy full capacity mags. If there are no high profile, multiple victim gun crimes just before the sunset, we have a chance. If there is a crime that blankets the networks with tales of semi autos and the evil they represent, we're screwed. Jane and John Average-Voter don't read America's First Freedom, they read what the AP has to say about firearms issues. Go sign up some new NRA members today, and do all of us a favor. The NRA isn't perfect, but it's the best (only?) game in town when it comes to representing gun owners and common sense laws.

IF the ban sunsets, it will be because of the efforts of the NRA - certiainly not those sitting on the couch "hoping".

I do 'hope' it goes away, and we as NRA contributors have supported and will continue to support the efforts. Looks today as if the House will not enter any gun banning bills, and that's good, because anythin introduced this year will assuredly FAR worse than the 1994 laws.

I for one am lokoing forward to calling my sheet-metal shop to "Go order" the magazine bodies at full production rates for at least 20K bodies. I hope all those trying to sell off inventories of $100 glock mags are listening!

And I've heard rumors of at least one US maker cautiously tooling for a AUG-type rifle in .223 and maybe even .308. Competion may well bring the AR-types down a third in price and we might see some reincarnation of the Calico designs???

But alas, US politics are not a for sure thing.

All that is required for liberty to fail, is for good men (and women) to do nothing. (apologies to Mr. Franklin)

Thanks strange. We got it because the NRA told Klinton that as the representative of gun owners they thus we could live with it. Now you think they are gonna make it go away or contribute to it going away? What irony.

I may be wrong but I believe it was Bill Ruger standing up for the ban also. It was at the time when his P89's were used in several shootings and he was getting real bad publicity. Seems those 15 round mags were a favorite among wrong doers.

jest me thinkin boys--we are never going to get shed of folks that do not agree. let me say i applaude that. boys i'm happier than a hound in the sun that we live in a country where we have the right to disagree.
lets not fear-let us be pro-active and do some campaining for our side. it is not going to change if'n all we do is complain to ouronselves-have a pity party-wish, if ya will.
there are some folks that are taking a stand and they need our supprt and in put. by support i mean $$$$. cost bucks to defend and get the message out.
choose, by investigation, those you believe are doing what needs to be done--be an activest--join in and support. volunteer--go to meetings-help set up campaigns--set up some youronself. do all of this in good taste, portraying yourself in an honest, upright method and it will pay dividends.
folks do not want to see anybody take the stance of a mob or rabblerousers. they react favorable to those who present an honest, well thought out resonse in an open and forthright way.
we can gain the confidence of the rank and file citizen in this way. i'm not too sure we do not have their support anyway.
let's us influence in a positive way.
can we loose? sure we can. but, hay we can also win. an ifn we don't we got tha right to try again. in the long run the pendelum swings--i seen it before.

This will be sunsetted - Ruger guns werent P89's used in those killings but a P90 45 Acp 8 round clip. The case with the most press was the subway guy an African National I believe opened fire on a loaded car. He was carrying a pouch with many clips. Just kept reloading and firing. The bill was pushed forward in Senate and house and for the first time in history pressure with pending bills laden with pork was used as leverage and many side deals were made. These people looked foolish as Bill Clinton cost them their jobs in next election. The Police Chiefs Associations begged for this. i never heard of the NRA being involved in the bargaining. As far as Hillary running for Pres it wont be for a long time. She got a HUGE advance on her book. Last count the book wont break even as a matter of fact except for the first day sales are non existant. The people to watch here are Feinstein and Shurmer I would bet there is something in the offing. There arent many not fearful of these two. Look for a bill for Homeland Security or possibly a Terrorist bill to hide the dreadful. It will arrive as a last minute change or addition. it would be up to the Presidential staff to find the hidden meaning. At the very least the ATF will be given a broader authority. This might even come as a changeoff. Remember I told you so!!!!!
