New Model Super Blackhawk Rear Sight Question?
« on: April 04, 2011, 04:19:46 PM »
Hey everyone.  My newest toy I just bought is a ruger super blackhawk 4 5/8inch barrel 44mag.  It is a "new model"  Acording to the serial number it was made sometime around 1993.  I bought the gun used and it already had the laminat grips and a weaver scope base on it.  No rear sight at all. I ordered one from numrich. I plan to use this for hunting but want to keep it lightweight so I am going to try it with just the sight on it once it arrives.  If that doesnt work I would like to try and mount a reflew sight on it but i want to keep it compact i dont want to leave the big weaver rail on it. JP sights have a mount for the double action revolvers from ruger http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPA-RR and it looks like this might mount on my sight block but was wondering if anyone could tell me if the sights are the same between the two.  Sorry for the long winded post but hopefully someone has one of each and cam maybe compare for me?  If not does anyone know of any relex red dot sights that make a mount to fit these guns?  If not a trip to the gunsmith might be in order 8)  Thanks for any help.
Joe

I can only offer this observation.  The original, Ruger produced rear sight assemblies are interchangeable between most of the Double Actions and the Single Actions.

One can confirm this by a little "page flipping" in your Brownell's Catalog OR by looking at the parts lists in your Ruger Owner's Manuals, which, by the way, are available "on line" at Ruger's web site.
