Ah the Chattahoochee Raft Race... I remember it well...  ;D  I remember when it started, how big and popular it got (did them girls really go topless?   ::)  ) and remember when it came to a screatchin halt...  :(  To bad.

But it does prove the inborn ability of young folk to have fun where they find it!  Along with:
Some young people's inability to hold they likker...
Some young people's ability to ruin everyone else's good time...
Some young people's ability to prove they are more stupid then the previous young person...
Some young people's ability to find the chlorine in the gene pool...
All young wimmins ability to make me wish I was 35 years younger...   ;D

Atlaw, the last great Chatt race through Troup Co. left several wrecked rafts along the way.  One was two aircraft pontoons framed with 4 sheets of plywood on top.  Marine grade plywood.  Aluminum pontoons.  This raft was deserted with one end under an overhanging tree, and the other pushed up by the current.  I told my Dad to put me off on the raft, and I would stand on it and lift up on the tree and see if I could force it under.  Didn't work.  The raft turned over upside down on me and shoved me out in the current.  Had a good swim, but we could never tow that stinkin' raft to shore upside down.  The plywood kept digging under the water and our little boat wasn't up to it.

Come to think of it, I don't remember why I wanted it in the first place..... ;D
