Need help on new TC handgun
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:38:12 AM »
Hello everyone, I am looking to pick up a contender or encore in the next few months to add to my pistol hunting trips. I will probably end up with an encore as it is beefier and I can add some interesting high pressure barrels on it later.

That being said, I was in the LGS and saw a used encore for $352. I was picking up a couple bricks of primers to finish some pistol reloading so I didn't have time to check it out. It had a 7mm barrel and what looked to be a fixed powered 4x scope but I couldn't tell who made it. There was noticeable wear on the grip and some on the action. Is this a fair price? Of course assuming condition is worse than it is would this price be an ok starting point for me to add another hobby (the encore) on top of my already swollen addiction? Thanks for the help!  ;D

Thanks for the replies guys. Anything I should look at on the action or certain wear points?

I thought it sounded like a good price but I didn't get a chance to inspect it.

I want to purchase it pending and odd/bad wear or damage on it so any help for what to look for would be great. Thanks!  ;D

*edit: does the warranty transfer seeing that it is used? This is a comment in reply to an above post on TC and their warranty.

That sounds reassuring. Can anyone else speak to their lifetime guarantee?

T/C has always been great to deal with. But if you have any specific questions, call them... They will answer any question you may have.

Thats a steal, go get it before somebody else does. I have an encore pistol in 7mm-08 and love it, have taken 2 does with it and 2 bobcats. I paid about $525 for it about 3 or 4 years ago, it was used, mine is stainless and I've put a 4x32 Swift scope on it. I looked for one in that price range for about 6 months or more and couldn't find one any cheaper than the one I bought.

I get there and it is gone! Man I guess that was a good deal as it wasn't there a week! They also had a contender (used) for 500 or so bucks without anything special with it. Oh well, I have the rest of the winter to try to find another deal...

Well I missed out on the encore deal; however, I was in a gander mountain and saw a G2 package for $750 which included 4 barrels (22LR, 218Bee, 222Rem, and 30-30), an extra grip with a swivel stud (one of the barrels had the other swivel stud on it), and sling.

How does this package sound? I would only keep the 22LR barrel and would probably trade out barrels to 7-30waters or 30-30AI.

It is about right for frame and four bare barrels in good shape.  If there are scopes and mounts involved it gets better.

There are some good calibers there besides the .22.  In fact they all are.  I wouldn't be to quick to sell off any of them.

I agree with Keith, that's a great start(love that 218Bee) to a good collection of barrels.
BTW TC does not care if you bought it new or not...I bought a Contender that had a problem....called them and explained that I bought it in that condition...they said to send it to them...they not only fixed the problem, but updated the old style hammer, all for free. ;D :D ;D

Thanks for the replies guys. What should I look for on the barrels to see if they are in good condition. I dont have a bore scope but any pointers would be nice.

Not to be too much of a noob but what would a 222rem or 218bee be used for?

One local store sells them in blocks of 500 or 1000 in which I and some others unofficially named them "bricks."   ;D

I put some money on the package so it will be mine soon! I am psyched.

I think having the 218bee and 222rem is a bit redundant so I might sell off the 218bee but I had forgotten that there is also a 2.5x TC scope on the 222rem so that is another nice bonus for the package.
