Hey, I had to buy a whole bunch of new traps to get control of an infestation problem I have with beaver, muskrats, and cyotoes. I boiled them to get all the grease/oil/whatever it is they put on the new traps and spent well over 3 hours trying to boil a walnut stain (real walnut hulls) and couldn't get it to take. I don't recall doing anything different 20 years ago before the bottom fell out, but Did I forget something in dying traps? Walnuts always worked before, and they were allowed to stew for a long time and cook down before attempting to stain my steel. Any ideas?
PS...I did order some commerical logwood dye this evening, because I don't want to wait much longer to start thinning out my problems. I already lost 20 mature trees this summer and a couple more about to go in the next week if I don't catch the critters first. These things are taking down 25 inch trees! Any good bait recommendations for the beaver? Never tried to catch them before....
