.375 H&H Cast Bullets?

I never shoot lead bullets unless they are covered with copper. or brass. I shot lead once
in a hand gun  And it was a real bear getting all the lead out. So I don't shoot uncovered lead anymore.

The Lyman 265gr. gascheck bullet is always a good bet for all 375 cal. rifles. Most 375 H&H chambers can use them as-cast, don't size them down. Water quenched wheelweights are good for 2100 fps easy in 1:12 twist barrels if they are good quality, my best results have been using AA5744 and IMR4759, but there are many others that will work. So far I'm seeing barely over MOA for 10 shots off the bench at 2150 fps in my rifle. No leading whatsoever. You just gotta do it right.

   I have mentioned this before, Paul Mathews mentions the use of cast in his book "60 Years With Rifles"...He has done quite a bit with this caliber, but now maybe into the 45-70 more....It is an interesting read...If you choose you might contact him personally....

I have an old "Guns & Ammo" special magazine titled "Big Bore Rifles" printed in 1982 or 1983. It shows a .375 cartridge loaded with a round lead ball and calls it a squib load. I assume this load is for target practice or maybe rabbits. A ball diameter was not given nor was a powder charge. I've gotten really good accuracy with a round ball load in a .45-70, so suspect it may also work well in a .375.

It works great. .380" ball, coated with Lee liquid alox, loaded into a fired and unsized case over 3 or 4 grains of Bullseye, Red Dot, or pretty much any fast flake powder. No fillers.

   A "reduced" load that has worked for me in the .375H&H was:  41.5/SR4759/WLM/Win/225cast(sized).  My records don't show the velocity of the load, but it was accurate, didn't "lead" my barrel, and was a "pleasant" load to shoot. The cast bullets I used were originally .379 bullets (38/55?) that I sized to .375. I found this "powder charge" in "Duponts data sheet" as a max load for a 270gr (jacketed) bullet at 53,000cup. It turned out, the same load, with a much lighter cast bullet, worked very well in my rifle without showing any problems with pressure (standard cautions apply, reduce initial charge at least by 10%!).
   I particularly like SR4759 in many calibers, and for reduced loads, as well as cast loads. The powder is very "bulky" and precludes the requirement to use "fillers" in most cases.

IGM, slug the bore first, then go 2thousands over actual diamiter. I too have had good results with IMR4759. Use a gas checked bullet.  Fun to shoot & great practice.

i've used the lyman 265 gaschecked in mine over 30 gr of reloader 7 at about 1750 pretty accurate
