It depends on what you want to do with the gun. There are not a lot of quality guns you can buy new in that price range. I like the Sheridan multi-pump in .20 which sells for about $125.00 at most sporting good stores. There are a couple of Chinese guns that I quite like; if you want to go with CO2 the QB-78 is a nice little gun at about $75.00, I think better than the original Crosman it is cloned from, and a great project gun. Also the B-19 is a pretty powerful springer that is a nice inexpensive hunting gun at around $85.00. I've had good luck with the Chinese guns from bestairguns.com and Funsupply, you have to be careful where you buy from, Chinese quality control can be hit or miss. Take a look on my website and you can see the QB-78 and B19 (B18 and B9 are the same gun) that I'll be taking on an upcoming hunt. You can always shop for a used gun as well!

conibearer,

In addition to what Jim has said you can shop around on line.  These are two outlets I buy air rifle supplys from.  One is http://www.natchezss.com/ and the other is http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/.  Good luck and let us know what you get.  Lawdog

take some time for research

Take some time for research. I did, by surfing the net, and I'm glad I did. You'll get a bunch of good advice, begin to figure out the kind of gun you want or need, and where to get a reasonable deal.  I think this forum is becoming better and better for airgun info as more folks join it. I ended up getting a very good used Beeman R7 for basement target shooting and I love it.  I took time and decided to spend the $ for a good quality gun.  BTW I spent about $180 and considerably less than for a new one.

One can't go wrong spending a little more for a quality gun like Beeman or RWS, it's cheaper in the long run should you decide to upgrade later. DP

a good gun

I have just got me my first springer about a month ago, after alot of research and not too much cash to spend, as yourself, I choose the wincheser 1000x, the trigger pull is horrible, but with the removal of the one spring under the trigger, Im shooting 1 inch groups at 30 yards, save some more cash for a good scope, steel mounting rings, scope stop, cause I have chewed up two pairs of aluminum rings, gun has alot of kick, took a few hundred pellets to get used to it, but for the money, it has power, as long as you have a good eye the gun will perform. I have taken 2 squirlles...they just dropped, a rabbit, he got about 20 feet before he realized he was dead, and it really hasnt been broke in yet, got about 400 pellets though it......let us know what you decide on, if your not to far in michigan, ill come up and c-ya.......nw indiana......

conibearer,

Before you buy a Gamo let me say that the Gamo DOES NOT have the best name in air rifles.  I don't think you are going to like all the plastic on them, like the trigger guard that breaks easily.  My daughter had one of their 880 models(right after she bought it they changed the model number to 890) and she went thru seals so often you couldn't depend on the rifle.  I replaced her Gamo with a Winchester 1000X and it three times the rifle than the one she had.  The 890 is the higher dollar model than the 440(the one that the Realtree Hunter is based on) you are looking at.  The BSA 4X32mm Airgun scope has been know to break down under the recoil of springer rifles.  The rings that come with Gamo combos are not very good.  They can and will bend, easily.  For the same money you can get a RWS 94 combo that is ten times the rifle that the Gamo is.  Just a word of friendly warning, I don't think you'll like that Gamo.  Lawdog

Well I think I found the one on that website that  klorbekld recommended. It is a RWS model 94 that shoots .177 cal. pellets. It is selling right now for a fall special of about $120.

conibearer,

You will be much better off with the RWS M94.  RWS also makes a scope that will work just fine with that rifle and use a good mount for the scope.  RWS and Beeman make the best in my opinion.  Lawdog

Hi folks,

Name's toan an i'm brand new here... I hope to be getting my rws 94 in .22 soon. soon... soon...

Coni, I just wanted to mention that the fall special is for 94 demo (meaning it was returned and fixed). I would have gotten it if they had it in .22 but they don't. Very good deal though.

If you want to buy an RWS rifle then you must go to
« Reply #14 on: October 27, 2003, 10:34:10 AM »
Airgun Express and check out their RWS Demos. The Prices are the best anywhere. Guns are reconditioned but all come with new gun warrenties.
including the RWS94.
If you want an RWS rifle this is the best place to get one.

You can get a RWS model 34 from airgun express for $140 for
« Reply #15 on: November 04, 2003, 03:28:16 AM »
a demo gun these are reconditions guns usually like new and with a complete new gun warrenty from RWS a 34 is a much better made german gun than the 94 whuch is a spanish made gun like the gamo. Gamos are over priced and have a multidude of problems go with the RWs at all costs over the gamo.
If you want a mediun power springer (lots easier to shoot than a magnum first time off the bat then you want a CZ631 airrifle lovely wood excellent trigger 177 caliber and as accurate a gun as you will fint anywhere. If you go to Tim Johnston airgun targets  he sells the 631 for 75 for an extra he will do a lube tuns this is well worth it as the kube tune will smooth out the gun and make the firing experience much smoother another $12 shippint to you for a total cost of $102 for the complete gun. One of the best buys in the airgun world You won'r go wrong with either the RWS 34 demo or the CZ631 Both are excellent airrifles and much supior to the RWS 94 and especially the gamo ( I don't recommend gamo airrifles to ANYONE) I have been into airgun seriously for 6 or 7 years and I have amassed a nice sized collectint some guns stay aome go quicklu. The only gamo guns I will have in my home are the handguns these are fun and usefull but they are CO2 NOT springer rifles. I have mid power springer magnum springers CO2 guns both modern and older crosman classics. And a variety of pump guns. I even have a crosman airshotgun!
So your choices appear to be the RWS 34 demo in 177 if you must have magnum power (900 fps in 177 actual volicity) or the medium power gun a CS631 (650 -700 fps in 177 actual volicity) There two guns are the best quality you can buy these days for the money. You can spend more money but you wont get any better value for it/
