Young Hunting Birds
« on: January 26, 2010, 08:24:22 AM »
The past few days the birds at the feeder have been leaving in a mass panic flight. Swoosh, they aare gone. It is familiar. Just now I was watching the birds and a young male Keatrel chased another bird into a cedar. It then flew and pearched in every tree over the feeder before leaving.

I have seen two adult male Kestrels catch birds at my feeders. They made a blind diveing approach from bihind my house. They both caught thier prey in flight 3 to 6 feet from the feeder and left in flight to the woods behind my house. I wonder if I will get to see this youngster accomplish this.

The big females pearch in trees in the edge of the yard and wait for larger prey like cats and rodents, squirls included.

I like living in the country.

Yup country life is really living.
Some evenings and some mornings I get to watch the deer feed in my side yard.
Got lots of little critters to enjoy.
Makes for some good chuckles some times watching them.

Like to sit on the back porch and watch the deer, turkeys, coyotes, fox, hawks and others well enough but I've sure had my fill of the polecats.  Don't know why they think they have to gather around the house.  I just shoot um and haul them off downwind.
