Savage Model 340E Trigger
« on: November 03, 2003, 07:51:27 AM »
:D
I own a pristine Model 340E DLX with, in my estimation, a 7lb trigger pull! This gun can print groups of .50 but the trigger pull causes the group to open up if I lose one ounce of concentration on the trigger pull. Can anyone out there can point me to a gunsmith who can lighten/improve the trigger or a home "how to"? I've searched the net high and low and still no luck. I've found that Wolfe has a spring kits for the 340's but that's to increase the firing pin strike force; mine does just fine. Once again appreciate the help.

Any competant smith can lighten the pull and clean up the weight somewaht.  The problem with most of these type rifles is that they can't be lightened too far are the trigger will fail and that's a dangerous situation.  You would be much ahead to find a smith locally as mailing weapons thru the USPS while legal is costly, slow, and dangerous.  Ask at the local gunshop, shooting club, etc.  These guys are usually gun cranks and can either point you at someone or at least help define a smith's strong points.  Like many proffessions some smiths are a bit speciallized.  Find a good one and tell him you would like a smooth reliable 3 pound trigger with minimal take up and overtravel...  That should be not too hard to accomplish..  Let us know how you fair...
