New to me XTR 7-30 Waters
« on: January 16, 2010, 12:44:10 PM »
First time for pictures at GBO and many thanks to Graybeard for the help.

I purchased this rifle this morning. As new 94AE XTR in 7-30 Waters, no box but appears to be unfired. I probably paid too much but I wanted it. Cost me 600.00 and came with 2 boxes of factory ammo.

Very nice rifle and good caliber. I think I would have had to take that one home too!

Last winter I had a chance to buy one but with a black composit stock at a gun show was very nice and with two boxes of ammo for 400.00. I still wish I had not passed on it. You did good a very nice looking rifle and nice wood too.

Nice rifle I have been hunting with one for over 24 years . It has never let me down . Largest buck was a 12 pointer with a 21 inch spread. The factory load of Nosler 120 gr. FP is the best load i have found And i have handloaded several other brand and weight bullets . Including some pointed bullets . I got two rifles and gave my oldest son one , his has really beautiful wood . The picture of yours shows some nice wood also . As far as shooting deer I have yet to recover a bullet , Often going thru. both front shoulders . The only deer i shot twice was the 12 pointer and it was not needed really.
Yours appears to be a rifle (24 inch bbl. ) as is mine . A good friend has the carbine and it seems to work as well for him .
I had put mine away a couple years ago and used another rifle i have . But this year i got it out and carried it some and realized how well it carries and shoots so next year it goes first . Let us know how it shoots and enjoy !

I don't think you paid too much. That caliber is pretty hard to come by in a 94. Ya did good. All the other oddball calibers like .375,.356 and .307 are in that price range and higher.

Saw a 32 Winchester Spl. made in 1958 , looked unfired . Owner said he got it in 58 and put it in the closet and forgot about it . It was for sale at a show for $550.00 . If i wanted another one I would have paid that. When I got mine they sold for more than a 30-30 anyway .

I don't think you paid too much either. An unfired xtr is worth all of $600. Nice rifle BTW. I would have paid $600 in heart beat for it. Congrats!

That was an excellent buy, especially for a rarer rifle version.

I really like it, since it brings out the chambering's full potential.

I had never seen an XTR in 7-30 Waters before and had to have it. I have seen the XTR in 375 Winchester.
Not sure if I will shoot it right now, I have been working on another project.

Marlin 1895CB in 45-70, Beeches combination front sight and Marbles tang sight.
The bullet I am using is a Lyman #457193, weighs in at 409 grs with 16-1 lead. Powder is 28 grs AA 5744 and SPG lube. Velocity is 1290 fps with no leading and good accuracy. The rifle will keep 5 rounds on a 8"x8" steel plate at 200 meters using the tang sight and post/globe front sight. Recoil is a little strong on the bench. ;D
Really want to shoot black powder out of it, but I think cleaning it will be a real chore.
