We have a Moose hunt for the disabled up here. They take four people out in a special designed blind that lifts them up into the air so they can see above the tall grass out in the meadow area of the Flood Control project. I do not know what the procedure is to get selected for this hunt. I do know all the guys have been in wheel chairs.
We also have guided Spring Bear hunts over bait down near Anchorage for handicapped people. Again I don't know what you do to find out how to apply for them.
I do not hunt in the area, or not even close, so I do not interfere with what those guys will see. I am lucky I can still ride my 4-wheeler. But I told my partner I am not going on any more hunts where we have to walk more than a quarter mile. And no more swamps.
Last year I felt pretty good after walking .5 miles down hill to the blind. Then after I shot my bear I climbed back up that trail carrying a 14lb rifle. And I climbed faster than he did. But the 500 yard walk carrying that 125lb hide and head on my back almost did me in. It took four weeks to recuperate.
I have arthritis, overweight, bad knees, heel spurs, 4 herniated disk, high blood pressure, diabetes, one lung, coronary artery disease, and a failed by-pass. The day I stop is the day they send me to the undertakers.
