Got another coyote today--
« on: February 13, 2010, 08:42:27 AM »
John and I went out again this morning to try our luck at calling in some more coyotes. We got to the field right at light as we had about a 1/2 mile walk back in to where we wanted to set up. John put the Foxpro caller about 30 yards out and we took our positions inside the edge of a woods. I was looking right and he was set up for the left side. I just ranged some trees at 168 and 182 yards so I would know the distance from where they might come. I set up my bipod and took a look thru my scope at the edge I just ranged and there was a coyote walking along the tree line. He walked about ten yards and stopped broadside. I set my dial on my scope and settled the crosshairs on him and let one fly. He dropped in his tracks. John hadn't even started the caller yet as we had just sat down and we always wait a few minute before calling. I didn't think John could see him and probably wondered why I shot so soon. When we got done calling he came over and said "What the hell were you shooting at." I said "There's a dead coyote up at the edge of the woods by the cedar tree". He couldn't  believe it so we walked up the hill and he was laying dead right where I shot him. It just doesn't get any better than that. That make three coyotes in the last three weekends. This was a BIG male, probably weighed 50 pounds. The two females we shot were a lot smaller. I skinned him out and saved the hide for the taxidermist to make me a wall hanging.

I doubt that. I hunt until the season is closed. Besides the farmers we hunt on want us to shoot as many coyotes as we can.
