Groundhogs with a Pardner

While rabbit hunting this year I have seen a lot of groundhog burrows. I even have a couple on our property. The state property around the area is loaded with them. Well, just the short of it, I think I’m going to try and harvest some of them this spring/summer. I’m thinking it would be a great way to training the wife and kids about climbing tree stands, patients in the stand, waiting for the shot, shot placement, safe gun handling and a hole list of things when you think about it. I understand that they are fare to good eating too.
Planning on loading some 1 oz. magnum #6 shot and limiting the range to about 30 yards with their shotguns. May, have to build a .410 sluggun to train the family for deer season.
Has anyone used the Pardner to take groundhog?

Around here a few of the old timers swear young groundhogs are pretty good. I once tried some that had been pickled & canned. Unless I was starving, I wouldn't call it "fair to good". I'm sure someone has a recipe that would make it palatable.
To keep it on track I've shot a few at close range with the 20ga barrel on my Savage 24. I shot one with a Handi 45/70 this summer. The 22/250 Handi is my gun of choice for 'hawgs, though.

I saw a show where they par boiled it with a bunch of seasonings and then baked it wrapped in aluminum foil with other stuff in with it. Not sure what all they used but they did say the young uns were less greasy.

that sounds like a lot of fun. i stumbled on to the website which has some specality loads for the .410 among other things the .410 3" BB loads looks kinda cool i dont know anything about the company just passing on some info

Hey, they're just a weed eating rodent, not a scavenger, and big enough for a meal or two. If you like squirrel you'll do them in a similar way and it'll be good, especially if they have been feeding at somebodies garden.
