Will the TC encore in 45-70 handle Ruger load data?

Hi All

I have an Encore barrel in 45-70 on the way and I want some hot loads for it.

Going to be using Barnes solids in 450 grain

How hot can I go?

Planning on using IMR 3031 powder

From what I have read the Encore will handle the Ruger loads fine. The limiting factor will not be the gun but your shoulder. I have one on the way also and I am going the start with the trapdoor loads and work up.

You may want to check with T/C before loading the Encore to max Ruger loads. The Ruger is a lot stronger. Try a few of the heavier Marlin loads and see how you like them.

My understanding has always been that the Encores were limited to the loads listed for the Marlin. However, opinion vary on this entire issue; Trapdoor vs Marlin VS Ruger.

Compare several loading manuals and you'll see that they don't agree either.

I called T/C about this very thing about two years ago. The guy I talked to (don't remember his name now) told me to not go above the Marlin loads. After shooting a few Cast Performance 405's at 1750 fps out of a 7.5 pound gun I agree.
