260 rem loads, help!!
« on: October 23, 2003, 10:07:53 AM »
I just picked up an XP-100 in 260 Remington.  Would appreciate any assistance from Encore shooters.  Good accurate loads?  I have my own custom 142 gr boattail bullets.  Will try them for punching paper and steel targets.  Will use Noslers for hunting.  Any help would be appreciated.  Powder, Primer, Bullet.  # of grains of powder if you want.  ok if not.  I will be working up slowly anyway.

Thanks,

Steve   :D

New Rem. Brass, full length sized.
Rem. 9 1/2 LR Primer
39.5Gr IMR 4895
Nosler 120Gr BT
OAL 2.765
Chronographed velocity 2525 - 2550FPS from 15" Encore.
Accuracy 4 out of 5 under 1" @ 100yds.  5 shot group runs about 1 1/2"

You can attain similar results with Reloder 19, but much more recoil.

This is my standard deer load for NY Whitetails.

You may find very similar results for the 7mm-08.

Hope this helps.  Rol

38.0 grains Hodgdon 4350
140 grain Sierra Matchking
Federal Large Rifle Primers

Used it for silhouette in my 260 XP and my best 5 shot groups were .347" at 100 yards, and 1.003" at 200 yards from a bench.  From the creedmore position and a 5x scope, it would stay under 4" at 200 yards for as long as my arm could hold up.

You will probably have to work hard to find a load that does NOT shoot well. Ballistic Tips have been accurate in a large number of my guns.
