shoot through scope mounts

Anyone have any opinions on shoot through scope mounts for a shotgun ( to go with my shotgun scope thread)?

Ouch!!! I have tried see-thru mounts and really didn't care much for them. To see through the scope you need to put your chin on top of the stock. If you have a scope more than likely you'll never use your open sights. Up untill a few years ago we had to use shotguns for deer and I used low mounts with a Leupold 2-7x32. This is a good power for shotgun as it allows you to shoot at short yardage and could be good out to 200 yards.

I have see through mounts on my Savage 24, in .223/12.  I zeroed the .223 with the scope and shoot the shotgun barrel through the mounts.  It works.  I hate the way the higher mounts make me hold my head up higher to see through the scope.  It works but Im not happy with it.

They are an answer to a problem that does not exist. Very poor idea. Just make up your mind if you wish to use the scope or irons and then do so.

they're bad for getting good cheek weld when using scope - and if I've got a scope, no reason to use irons, unless something breaks.

The only thing I can think of is something to do with hunting dangerous game. Other than that I can't see another reason.

i have them on my 270cal for about 24 years. the rifle shoots so good i am scared to change them. ;D

Very bad idea, with any gun it's all about fit and feel..These things just aren't natural

I have them on a Remington Model 6, Remington 742 and Browning Bar all in 30-06 and have used them on several occasions when I bumped the scope while hunting and didn't know if I had knocked it off zero or not. I also use them on my 10/22 just because that is what they had in stock when I bought the rings and I don't want to rezero. On all my bolt guns I use low or med height rings. Never had a scope on a shotgun.
