357 max
« on: January 25, 2010, 01:29:06 PM »
I am  looking for some load data on 200 grain hornady sp bullets using W-296 and LiL' Gun. I been reading that the 180 gr ssp bullets seem to be the crowd favorite, but I have a bunch of 200 gr sp. any problems using this bullet? I will be shooting these in a encore 15" barrel. Gonna use it for hunting and just plain shooting. Thanks

I have never used WW-296 nor Lil Gun in my maxes.  Can't comment on the powder.

I only shoot 180, 200, and 210 grain bullets.  Contender likes the 200, DW likes the 210, and Ruger likes all three. AA1680 is easy to load and is accurate in all three of mine.

Mine shoots both pretty well but the hornady XTPs out shoot them both. IMR 4227 gives me the best results but AA 1680 is right behind it I rarely use anything else in my maximums and now I mostly shoot 180gr LBT LWNFP GCs don't shoot to many jackets anymore. 8)

Not clear if you are using a rifle or handgun or what you plan to use it for.  Hornady lists the recommended MV range for the 200gr SP from 1800-2900 fps and the 180 SSP from 1600-2400 and has load data for the T/C for the 200gr SP for both powders.

I use only H110 and Hornady 180 Gr. XTP's in my max.( For deer hunting )

The 180 Gr. SSP's grouped well , but the XTP did better.

I thought the SSP was good till I shot my first deer with it. Was recovered, but was a long trail.
I don't think they expand well, the XTP has proven to work much better for me.

I haven't shot any 200 Gr. loads, can't comment on them, but it never hurts to try them.
