Irresponsible gun use
« on: January 25, 2010, 04:32:20 PM »
Here's a great example of an irresponsible parent putting a gun in a baby's hands:

Then there's this touching domestic scene:

Here's the way to teach somebody to flinch at a tender age:

I disapprove of the three above, but this one is OK with me:

First one, they should have both had eye protection, the dad needed ears. But my dad started me shooting at about that age. Single shot .22 rifle and his Ruger Mk. 1.  (no eyes and ears back then, no one thought of it).  But nothing wrong with starting on the basics of safety early.

The second one, the guy is a jerk and should be horse whipped.  All he did was teach her to be afraid of guns.

Third - I started my step-kids around that age.  I didn't have they shoulder the gun like that, I had them tuck the stock under their arm and I had one hand on the buttplate and one supporting the fore end on my .303 Enfield, the 7x57 Mauser, and the 6,5 x 55 mauser.  I  also loaded up my front stuffer shotgun, .690 patched ball on top of 80 gr FFg.  The boom, smoke, push, and the BIG hole it made made the impression on them that I wanted.

The first one wasn't too awfully bad, but I think eyes & ears are needed for both.  That guy that decided to play a joke on his wife is just an a$$hole, pure & simple.  And I really don't think there's anything funny about seeing a youngter writhe around in the ground from recoil induced shoulder pain.
I thought the grandmother was hilarious.

My kids were about 8 before I let them shoot anything, and then it was BB guns, then a youth .22. At 10 it was a 20 gauge with reduced recoil ammo for shooting clays with our portable trap.

Eye protection forgot in the first video. But, if you take a close look, I think the dad has foamies in his ears. As far as the youngster in the one video, if you take a look at his face in the last few seconds, he's got a smole on his face, while rolling around. Don't think it hust as bad as you think. Kids at that age love to over dramatize. If he really hurt, you'ld be seeing some real crying and running away. gypsyman
