338 Federal in the Encore handgun
« on: January 17, 2010, 01:46:03 PM »
Greeting all, this is my first post. Just purchased my first TC Encore stainless frame and been thinking of the 338 Federal for my first barrel. Did accomplish a search but didnt find any recent information so thought I would ask the questions.
Has anyone here used the 338 Federal on the Encore handgun? Velocities? Recoil? Been thinking this would make a good choice for the Alaska critters with 210 grain bullets.
Thanks

Welcome to GBO and the TC Handguns forum.  While I am not an Encore shooter there are plenty here, and I am sure that you will get good informaton from them.  Come back often and join the conversation.

I don't shoot an Encore either. But I do shoot a .338 Federal. I use a Ruger M77 Hawkeye stainless-synthetic. I have used it on 3 whitetail deer and a 900 lbs moose cow. Worked like a charm everytime. I want to get an Encore just so I can get a .338 federal barrel. If you end up getting one let me know it works out.

I have an Encore Pro Hunter 15" pistol in 338 federal. With factory fusion ammo it gives 1.5" groups at 100 yards. And the recoil is brisk with out a muzzle break, but managable. With hand loads it gives sub-moa groups.

jp, How would you compare the recoil against shooting a S&W 500 revolver?

I have a 338 fed in a 14" custom shop barrel.  I get 2500fps with factory 180gr Nosler TS, and 2400fps with 200gr Federal fusion.  Did not try handloads yet. Gun is very accurate.  The recoil is not bad at all without muzzle break.
