Have you tried any cortisone shots in your arm???

Oh yes, many times. I've had it in both knees for the arthritis there, the left elbow also the arthritis there and each shoulder gets it if not annually then not less often than every other year. Some years the shoulder which happens to be hurting the most that year gets it twice. I'm very familar with that shot. It can hurt about as bad as anything or it can be relatively painless depending on the precision with which it is placed and how well they have prepared the site prior to sticking the needle in.
There is some sort of local numbing agent that is some times used and some times not. It goes a LOT better with the numbing agent. The skill of the doctor administering it matters a lot as well.
I've done about everything imaginable to postpone what the doctors say is the inevitable surgery I need. For now with my good friend Mr. Darvocet I'm avoiding the surgery so long as I am very careful what I do. In summer when I get ambitious and try to do things as if I were still able to go out and work my good friend falls down on the job and I have to go see the doctor for shots or something else to get me thru. That and almost complete rest for a couple weeks are usually adequate to get me past that one without the surgery.
I know I need it but I've heard so many others that have had it say they'd not do it over again knowing what they now know and I just don't want the six months to a year of doing almost nothing. At my age that's just too much time to take out of whatever time I have left. If the folks I know who've had it were more positive about the benefits I'd be more likely to give it a try and take the time out of my life for it.
