Wolf Primers

Saw some Wolf primers at a gun show Saturday.  $32 for 1,000.  Are they any good?  Price seemed good.

The only experience I have with Wolf primers is small pistol and small rifle.  I have had no problems with these primers.  They seat about like the winchester primers and performance, so far, has been flawless.  I usually wait until I order for two or three other reloaders and get them off of the internet for $25/1000. Even after hazmat and shipping, they are cheaper than we buy them locally.

Well, I guess for shooting, plinking, small game hunting, and non-dangerous game, that might save some money and wait over American made.  Will probably pick some up next gun show.

I'd much rather have CCI or Winchester or for that matter even Remington or Federal but those are not in stock anywhere anymore so I purchased 5000 Wolf brand and have 5000 more on order that they indicated they expect to be able to ship with the next ten days or so.

I'd rather have Wolf than none at all and it seems these days those are the two choices I face.

Yep, +1.  I've been looking for large pistol primers for some time now.......I'm to the point that I don't care what brand they are.

I got mine from Powder Valley in the first order. I got 3M SR, 1M LP and 1M LPM in that order. In the next I'm concentrating on SP and SPM primers. They say they get shipments every two weeks and take back orders to be filled when the next shipment comes in.

I got tired of trying the other places to include Widener's. You see them online as in stock but when you call they say they are out of stock. Same story everywhere it seems on all the US brands.

ive had decent luck with there rifle primers but there hard and take a good firing pin hit. The pistol primers havent been so good. Even there mag pistols are mild. About like a fed standard pistol primer. Ive had hang fires with them using 110 and aa9. There stand pistol are very week and i havent had good chrono readings with them even with fast burning pistol powders. Ive also found some of the lg pistol with anvils missing right in the package so look them over good as you load. It would have to be a last resort before i bought more of them. They make a gun go bang but thats about it.

Loyde ; you are the first person I have seen that has had bad wolfe primers.  I don't doubt your story, but we are between a rock and a hard spot.  Until things get back to normal,(if they ever do).  We are all stuck using what we can find. >:(  Unfortunetly, this shortage causes a snowball effect;  because of the shortage people keep buying as much as they can find, causing a continued shortage. ???  The stores out here have tried rationing, but others can't seem to pass up a good sale.  Good luck in your area. 8)

I just opened up a thou that a dude gave me at a gun show for helping them haul a bunch of their stuff out to the trailer.

haven't fired em yet but they look really nice, all brass colored, make the loads look like factory....hope they shoot as good as they look

did I mention they look really sharp?   ;)

I have had no problems with the SP/LP primers. I'm using Bullseye and Promo powder these days. I've fired around 1100-1200 of them. Hope they continue to work ok as I have a LOT more than that amount loaded!

There are a ton of match shooters that are claiming that the Wolf magnum SR primer has lower s.d. than the federal match or cci br. I have read they are made by RWS, which if true would be premo. I have 10000+ under my bench and I love them.

I am hoping they work well, FEDEX just dropped 10,000 LRs off at my front door. I think I am gonna order 10,000 SRs from the same guy. 8)

Well, here's my two cents.  I was hesitant to try Russian primers too, right up to the point where I actually got some.  These Wolf (and when you can get them, Magtech) are stellar performers.  They are very consistent, and I perceive no difference between them and CCi BRs in my Varmint 22 250.  I've never had a misfire in my 45 ACP, they are boxed so that you don't have to flip them to load them in the primer pickup tubes.  They are clean burning, and even under a microscope (yea, pretty picky, huh), they are beautifully manufactured.

So, except for my DA revolver that is set for Federal, everything else, including my 22 250 and 223 Super 14, get Wolf.

I love them, but Powder Valley Inc has them cheaper than Wideners ($3.50 per box less).  When these times of trouble are over, I'm going to remember who kept my costs down.
